acceleration hesitation

So recently my car started hestitating when I accelerate hard. For example if I drive moderate speed and continue to speed up at a normal pace .. No problem.. Moderate speed to step on the gas and I get a hesitate moment from the car like it just stops going if I let go and press again its like its fighting to have something open to get it to go... Any ideas. Not an expert or close to it! Thanks guys..

at idle the car responds normally no rough idle.. Just in those moments of getting on it does the car respond like that.

Stock ECU? Could be the 3000 RPM hesitation.

Does it make good power to redline?

How fresh are the spark plugs?

on my old FD from when i first drove the car it had a really bad hesitation at 3000rpm , when i drove moderate speeds and eased into the gas it was all fine but if i punched it i would get nothing just a dead pedal and if i somehow managed to pass 3000rpm my car would govern out at 5000rpm had no idea what this was , went back in forth with many ideas sensors , injectors.

but in the end it turned out to be my battery of all things, my battery died while i was doing a brake job and when replaced my hesitation was gone , the govern was gone and the car worked perfectly fine after

since were on the subject my car now has a bit of a hesitation, it came automatic and when in 3rd gear just going past 120km just before 3000rpm the rpm gauge seems to just stick there for a few seconds, almost feels like a lag .

but after a few seconds it starts accelerating again like nothing ever happened. cars is completely stock under the hood , cat back exhaust. but thats it

how ever as of now im doing a 5 spd swap as well as a V-mount setup so do you think it will still exist after all this and it was because of the automatic shifting weirdly or could it be something else . spark plugs are under a year old and recently cleaned out as well

thanks for any help
sorry to cut into your thread here "Mrhershey" hope your problem gets resolved

^My auto accelerates fine, no hesitations like that. Although at 3500rpm it gets some sort of strange "second wind" where it takes off like all %^& and there is a firm increase in power, even though boost stays normal. And then the secondary turbo comes in as normal at 4500rpm and it gets another kick in the pants.

I think my 3500rpm mystery power is in fact something to do with the torque converter locking up at that rpm. Definitely a good feeling

My problem still present haven't found the cure, but yes right around 3k rpm it will fight me to go as if its hitting walls, my spark plugs are newish only a couple months old, my battery had died in November but this just started occurring.. I will continue to hunt for the culprit :/

hey have you found the cure yet? mine started doing this about 2 weeks ago, changed my cat, o2 sensor, and it only does this sometimes. It seems like that my fuel filter is clogged and needs replacing since mine kinda cuts off and during past certain rpm when im accelerating the car loses power and shuts off. before it shuts off it seems as though that the right amount gas is not being injected into the engine. so try the fuel filter. thats what i'm going to do next. just food for thought i hope it helps.

Too much back pressure can cause this as well. I changed out my muffler last weekend with a Apexi muffler and no longer feel the hesitation that happens when shifting between gears 1-3. Kinda like the car was constipated at the same time. A clogged catalytic converter could also cause this.

Just curious if you guys have boost gauges in your cars? My car is auto and was bone stock at the time (crusty vacuum lines, all emissions, etc.) and at the time my secondary turbo wasn't kicking in. However, there was one time I was on it hard and all the sudden my car got real sluggish around 3000-3500 rpm and I looked at my boost gauge and I had hit 14 psi!!! I immediately let off. So it was either some kind of fuel cut or it was running so lean it felt like crap (don't have a wideband hooked up yet, so not sure what the afr was). I have since replaced all my vacuum lines and deleted some emmissions and got my secondary turbo working again, but it defintely surprised me that my bone stock auto car would hit 14psi on just the first turbo. That may be the same sluggish feeling you are having if you don't have a boost gauge yet.
