You know how the engine shoots up really high when you first start it? I've heard it called the accelerated warmup. Does anyone know how to disable it?

You can also tap on the gas pedal. For example, when you turn on the car it sometimes goes to 3000 RPM or whatever it goes too. As soon as that happens, tap on the gas peddle and let go. The RPM should go down.

Both of the above are great solutions. Stupid Mazda. The damn engineers are ****** knucklheads. You'd think with all the money they make, hell can't they do anything right with the rotary.

What are you saying, man? It was done to heat the pre-cat up to operating temp as quickly as possible to reduce mandated cold-start emissions. Thank the Gov't for it, don't blame the R&D guys.

It has a purpose, it is to warm up the O2 sensor.
3k-rpm isn't that high. it only lasts 30 sec. When you drive the car cold, you will be running at 2.5k - 3k rpm's.

Manual's - start in 1st gear
Auto's - tap gas pedal after engine has started

Many have said it's bad to let the damn thing rev at 3000 rpm for 30 seconds or however long it takes to kick. Start it in gear, let it idle till it warmed up like any other car. I've also heard that it's bad for the motor because it revs the engine too high and that it doesn't lubricate fully.Just let it sit and warm up slowly. I always wait until the rpm's are down to 1000 till i head out. I drive slow under 3000 rpm till it warms up fully. That's just my opinion. This car sounds complicated doesn't it?

i have asked many car enthusiasts and everyone says that its okay to drive the car even if its cold (just make sure the rpms stay below 4k). in fact, its better for the car this way because it takes less time to reach normal engine operating temperatures this way.

but of course, i dont know this for a fact. can someone confirm?

Is there actually a way to DISABLE AWS? I'm not talking about starting in gear, or blipping throttle, I have a remote start, so those aren't exactly an option.

Unplug the connector to the aws and put a resistor in there

Block off plates are the way to go. EGR removed AWS removed AVC removed Double throttle removed. However my car still sits at about 2g at start up. ::shrug::
