Accelerated plug death

i've searched but didn't find much. it seems like my plugs are killing off much quicker than they used to. it's been every since i got my twin power. i only use bur9eq's and they only seem to last about 3-4k miles at the most before power loss is really bad. i just went about 6-7k miles on this last set because i haven't had time to go searching for plugs. my front trailing plug's electrode was about 1/3 gone, while the rear one was about 1/4 gone. is the twin power too much for the copper plugs? should i switch back to the platinums? i'm just sick of spending $30 on spark plugs this often.

It seems like the more mods we get, the quicker the plugs wear out.

Mods?

Mods?
T78, atkins street port, twin power, rx7store fuel system, apexi front mount, etc...

with the twins, i could easily get 6k or so out of my plugs before power loss was an issue, but now it seems like they need to be changed with every oil change

thats pretty bad, is the electrode getting worn away that much? I would try some Iridium spark plugs 10.5 or 10 trailing and see if that doesn't help out any.

I'd definitely try the platinums. The hotter spark of the Twin Power and the extra work the plugs are doing with the substantial increase in power is cutting the plug life big time. The platinums were speced as the stock FD plug just to increase life. If $1-2 more a plug means double the life, you're money ahead.

The Iridiums are another possibility, but those bastards are REALLY spendy - like $20-some a plug.

I don't know how long the plugs should last but I hope mine last longer than that.I only have about 2,000 miles on my car w/HKS twinpower,Rx-6 single turbo etc... and its becoming my daily driver until winter then its back to the first gen(maybe I can put the old worn plugs in it to get my money's worth out of them)

That is a fine FD I hope mine looks that good painted silver

Afterburn27, if you are ever back this way stop by the house and we'll go for a spin in my new ride

well, my front leading plug, if you look at it from the side, it looks like half the electrode has just been ate away. i didn't think it was running that badly until i got pulled on by some slower cars the other day and it was smoking a little. i threw some coppers back in it, but i'll probably switch back to platinums when these are shot. damn rotaries! lol

thanks for the complimets too guys

The iridiums are like $30/plug unless you get the snomobile/motorcycle ones for about $6ea. You will need the shaved down socket from Racing Beat or the cheaper version from kgparts.com

I use coppers. 9s all around.

They last as long as my platinums, which I was changing every 10k.

Copper plugs are $15/set versus $60/set. Last the same length of time. Don't notice a change in power.

I still beat the cars I did before by the same amount.

This is the route I went. Just bought 8 today from the local Honda motorcycle shop. BR10EG's for $4.22 a piece. I switch them out every 4-6K depending on how rich I am running. I have been using them since my car has been modified. I also have the twin power.

It doesnt hurt your feelings too much to do a $16 sparkplug change every few months - in fact I feel good after doing it.

Mine looks worse. Its black and even more corroded. Im hoping thats the cause of all my problems. BTW - how does your car run when you let the spark plugs get like that?

I am using the Snowmobile B10EGV's ($6 a plug) and change the leadings every 3K and the trailing every 6K. The leadings don't foul out nearly as quick, but if you are having electrode problems, that's another story.

runs like doody. my car traps 97mph, but i've hung dead even with 99mph cars on the streets. i raced a 94mph car the other night from 40-130 and lost by about a car. it was also smoking a little bit from so much unburnt fuel. i haven't gotten a chance to drive it since i put new plugs in it, but it idles much better.

i'm gonna go out tomorrow night and see if i can't put a hurting on that 94mph car

i might try some of those other plugs too for ***** and giggles. btw, times above are 1/8th mile, not 1/4
