Normally the compressor will sieze, but with the compressor switched off the car will run just fine - the magnetic clutch won't be engaged, so it should just be freewheeling.

Yeah, you could just unplug the compressor, and it shouldn't cause any running problems.

with the magnetic clutch not being engaged , what would this do? would it be harder to shift or what?

they are assuming that the clutch on the compressor will disengage allowing it to freewheel like it is supposed to when the ac is off. ac compressors can fail and completly lock up which is what i get from your post. you are saying the car wont run because the belt is draging around the compressor right?

The magnetic clutch they are referring to is part of the A/C compressor, it won't affect anything else. With this disconnected (and it 'fixes' the problem) the car would drive no differently, just you would not have A/C. When working correctly, this clutch is engaged when electrical power is applied to it. You can try disconnecting the electrical connections to the compressor itself. It may then disengage, but it may not, depending on what is wrong with the compressor. Make sure your A/C is off and the HVAC isn't set on defrost. That could possibly work too. If not, you can just take the belt off like mad_7ist suggested until you get a new compressor.

You REALLY need to read up on cars in general. If it's not too late, take an automotive class if you have it.

There's only one wire (that I remember) on the compressor. It's the lower assembly on the driver's side. Shouldn't be that hard to find.
