99 Tail Light Poor-Man Mod

I live in Falls Church, Virginia. I was wondering if anyone around the area could help convert my tail light to the 99 rx7's. I really like the round tail lights.

I live in the area but I sent them away to dude on the forum. I'm having a brain fart and cant remember his name right now w/o looking it up. Great job and it only cost me $80. I just didn't like the whole idea of me putting my plastic tail lights in the oven.

Uhhh.. you're supposed to use a heat gun to soften the taillense adhesive sealant.

I have seen this topic on the forum a couple of times, but how good does it really look in comparison to the real thing? The website I saw with the do-it-yourself instructions give details about painting the outside of the housings, but wouldn't it look better if it was painted out on the inside? I haven't taken them apart to look, but I am assuming this would be difficult to paint the inside well/perfect.. especially if there is any texture to it.

The difference between the real 99 and the 99 conversion is:
Real 99 uses a sticker on the inner lense to make the round lights.
99 conversion uses spray paint on the inner lense to make the round lights.

The finished product is identical. You have to disassemble the light and paint the inner lense. No one I know paint the outer lense that's smoked. There is a outer lense cover that makes the tail light round but that's not a 99 conversion.

It's pretty hard to screw up bc the conversion is done on the inner lense and the outer lense is smoked. So, any microscopic imperfection in the paint isn't going to show once it's under the smoked cover.

Oh, don't use oven. Use a heat gun to open up the light assembly.

In any case, I recommend everyone to get their lights converted. At $50-75, it's a great mod. You just might pick up a few horsepower too! J/K. Ryan does a good job from what I have heard. I also do it. And you can do it yourself. Just do it....

You won't regret it.

That's my question too. I'll spring for FedEx Priority 1 overnight both ways if I can get a 3 or 4-day turnaround. Are they tested for light and water seal leaks, Ryan?

Turnaround time......

I usually get the lights finished and sent out the day after I get the lights. There have been a couple of times where I've actually gotten them out the exact same day I recieved them (depends on how early they're delivered to me). 90% of the time they go back out the next day, but sometimes depending on weather it can take 2.

Toadman: FedEx isn't my favorite choice of companies to use since there are no drop off locations here (other than mailboxes ect which is big $$$$), BUT, if you do prepay I dont have a problem doing it. In that case, you could easily have them back in that time frame. If you shipped them Monday, I'd get them Tuesday. Convert the lights Tuesday and finish Wednesday, and ship Wednesday. You'd have them by Thursday. About the leaks, I've done over 100 sets and only had one person say that had a tiny bit of water leaking in when they washed the car. I offered to fix it, but it apparently quit leaking, so it wasn't anything major. I do seal them back just like the factory though, so there shouldnt be a problem at all. No complaints on the light leaks either.
