99 spec gauge cluster

Anybody ever put those in? Are they plug and play?
Just curious. They look a lot better than the regular 93 style ones if you ask me.

i believe fdnewbie was gauging interest in the fd for sale section. Think he said they were going to be around $1000! IMO, money could be spent better elsewhere, although it does look really good.

Defi Super Sports Cluster, version II is what I think he's referring to.

Indeed it has. To save everyone time, here's the best thread on it, including how to get everything to work (not too bad): https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=99+cluster

No no no lool. That would be RAPE. This is a 99spec cluster. They're not too expensive. I can definitely get 'em for ya if you're interested.

The $1000 gauge cluster was BRAND NEW Mazdaspeed clusters. The white faced is plug 'n play, the blue one is like this 99spec one in that it needs a few things to make it work. And the Mazdaspeed tach starts from the 7 o'lock position as our US tachs do (vs. the 6 'oclock position of this 99spec one), but the Mazdaspeed tachs end at 10,000 rpm Either way, if you're interested in either, PM me.

Not really. You can have it recalibrated so that the 180 kph is actually 180 mph, so it's essentially be the same as the stocker. Or you can swap speedos, keeping your original speedo & odometer.

Only thing I'd strongly remind and advise everyone of is: make sure you have a SHOP document the odometer miles on your original cluster before swapping any clusters, so you don't end up w/ a vehicle w/ "unknown/unverifiable mileage" in the future. Kinda hard to sell those

1250$ and even 3000$ awesome. Think ALL the guages you can buy centered in it. See the value @ 1,250$ ITS ROBBERY. Think of a boost guage, temp guage, exh temp guage, wat temp guage, speedo, oil pressure common now.

Plus I don't particularly like the way it sits in front of the cluster. If someone got it customized in with a speedo to match then it might look good. I know it has a digi speedo, but I like the traditional speedo also.

I think the Defi cluster is incredibly functional, but it looks like A$$. Sorry lol.

Sonix7, AFR is useless. EGT isn't even that helpful, unless you know how to tune...

Ramy. True! I was just noting that it didn't have EVERY reading. I know I am knitpicking. Yeah the display does look like ***. Maybe if it was customized into the speedo itself. It does have a degree of rice to it. Looks like something that Honda guys put in. BTW, Ramy my name is Jason. Nice to meet you after all this time!

Hey Jason I think it has EGT, which would replace an AFR reading.

"Or you can swap speedos, keeping your original speedo & odometer."

you would have to do something about the lighting though - as the later cluster has green lighting - not orange

Good point. I was thinking something along the lines of what Dale Clark & Hyperite did... sand off the red paint, and you'd have it w/ a white backlight. At that point, you can leave it as is, paint it red, or maybe even use red bulbs (since the lens would now be clear)?

Oh and DaiOni, thanks for always helping point out the stuff I overlook We'd be lost w/o ya

Was thinking of going the sanding root however, I don't feel it looks rice. It looks nice and EXT replaces A/F Ratio. Maybe i will show you guys this super secret part I have my eye on if this doesnt go through hint: its not super secret, you have probably seen it, it comes from R-Magic

Not if it's hooked up to a wideband O2.

good point guys. I liked what Dale did with the scratching off the red, I however give him a lot of credit for doing it and getting it right. It looks really difficult after looking at how the red illum is on there. How do people get the blue illuminated gauges in there? I never figured that out. I know it is some time of overlay but, how to they switch the illumination from red?

My guess would be color the lenses or use tinted bulbs...

yeah I thought bulbs but they still have to shine through the red. So you think people have done the scratch technique and then put colored bulbs in. That would work now wouldn't it. Then you could change the illumination to any color of bulb you could get in there. huh?
