99 Spec bumper- Is it possible for it to be "aggressive"?

So do you think it is possible to modify the 99 spec bumper to fit an aggressive style car? ie like TA cars? will a new front lip and canards ever be enough? or are the lines too sleek and clean to make a drastic style change? thoughts?

Well bubbles, I know you have the skill level to modify and work with fiberglass/hybrids but in my opinion the 99 spec is just too happy to be aggressive with the basic add-ons. You can add a dark lip but to me it still smiles like a little kid in a candy store. I took a good browse on google images using keywords like 99 spec and aggressive, but in my opinion even black cars running say a scoot hood and a lip still seem to be pretty happy overall. I'm not trying to deter you away from attempting to make it happen, but I think the rad/ic and oil cooler inlets would need to be squared off like an R-Spec bumper and the addition of a lip is needed to increase the overall posture and reduce ground clearance. I'm sure canards would help, but due to them being so track/drift scene oriented anyone I know either is all for them or they can't stand them (just a general thought and not really a point I'm trying to make as I know you build and do what makes you happy). For example if you look at an r magic bumper without the undertray and canards it looks like something from the F&F days, but with them.. it looks like the front end is ready to kill anything on the track so I think it would at the very least need these. My comparison picture of this is biased to due the frog eyes, but you get my point lol.

So cliff notes.. - Yes it can be done, but it needs less smile and more cowbell.

Just my opinion

Thanks for the input... basically im on the fence of trying to make "add on" parts to make it more aggressive, or chop it in half and hybrid the RE-A/Rmagic/99spec style all into one bumper...

i dont think it looks like its smiling to me, kinda looks dopey, but i do think the opens is what makes it looks too "stockish" i think that controls the aggressiveness of the bumper.. hmmmm

and without the lip the bumper is WAY too short (height wise) and if i made a diffuser/lip to replace the 99 spec lip, i feel like it will be wayyyy over powering since it will need to be fairly big (height wise) to lower the car, since the 99 spec combo sits pretty high

personally i think the 99spec front end with the 99 lip is perfect, its aggressive yet flows with the rest of the car. if only every Mazda designer had a picture of an FD in front of them when drawing new cars well i think Mazda would be in trouble for selling mobile ****.

Yeah of course they can be aggressive. I had one "fall" off a shelf a few years back and crack me on the head.
People say it fell. I say it jumped. Thats an aggressive bumper in my book.

Perhaps another option. Leg Motorsports bumper that seems to be a modified 99-spec.

Shipping is as much as the bumper, but if the fitment of the bumper is as good as the carbon side diffuser then fitment is perfect.

Other than the pics I've seen with hood and headlight lid missing, you have done a good job with your car so far. IMO you should leave it be for a little bit before you risk taking it too far.

That 911 inspired front bumper sure is interesting, I wish there was some pics of it out there without the front plate on it.

I think a 99 spec front bumper and 99 spec lip is pretty mild aggressive now if you want it to look real aggressive add a front mount and you my friend have an aggressive look.

i always thought about the same thing with the 99 spec front and what i came up was that the center bottom arch is what really gives it that smiley look, so i went ahead and flipped it upside down, and it looks a lot more aggressive.
or just cutting it off seems to work too.
although if you flip it upside down, it kinda looks like the feed bumper, which is actually what i liked and what i got on my car now lol

wow last picture looks great without the smiling center piece. I have a 99 spec ready to go on and I'm honestly wishing I had the skills to cut out that portion now!

Never liked the smiling frog look of the 99 spec. It is still much better than the "Miata" bumper of the US spec.

Pic 3 of the above definitely looks better.

It's very possible for the 99 spec front bumper to be aggressive. I've seen a few here in Colorado actually, but personally can't go wrong with the feed afflux version.2 front bumper. The 99 spec looks awesome though man.
