Also learn the ten or so Chinese Characters (Kanji) that correspond to the wire colours.

All the other words seem to be english spelt in Katakana.

Corresponding to the diagram, the parts manual lists two P/N for the cruise control switches. FD01-66-3D1A is for the Touring X which has the sunroof. FD07-66-3D1 is for the Touring S which is automatic and has no sunroof. So you want to find the harness for the version 3 Touring S car.

I looked under the Version III electrical manual, and found the cruise control wiring locations and schematics. I don't remember the plug being under the shroud hood, but I can easily check the passengers kick panel for the connector that would be in that position. I forgot the number off the top of my head, but I know it's blue, so theoretically if my harness has it on there, I should see an unused blue plug.

Here are the p/n for the Instrument Harness and Dash Harnesses for version 3 cars. The yellow markings correspond to the harness for no-sunroof automatics, with out the am/fm option and with the am/fm option.

I am not sure if the cruise hooks up to either the dash or instrument harnesses,

Have to look more closely at the wiring diagrams.

Based on the wiring diagrams I've looked at, its part of the dash harness.

Here are the wiring diagrams from the version 3 wiring manual, for the cruise control and the SRS system. Good luck!

Yeah, those are the same ones I have. I don't think my car has the plugs, but maybe I will be proven wrong.

I thought I read somewhere that the cruise control was an autonomous system not dependent on the ECU. But I could be wrong.

It's a separate system, there is a small cruise control brain that runs it. It does have a speed sensor input to it that is shared with the ECU but that's it. ECU doesn't handle anything cruise-related.

I was wondering about the speed sensor and where the little brain might might be located.

Also, I wonder, can a cruise control be set-up on a manual drive car?

I think Ceylon retrofitted cruise control on his S8 version 6.

The cruise control computer is in the passengers side kick panel I believe.

What do you mean by "manual drive car"? If by that you mean manual transmission, yes.

If cruise was retrofitted on an S8 car, it should be do-able on an S6, and I can't imagine he swapped out an S8 harness for an S6 one, as I imagine the differences would be too substantial for everything else to work properly. If I'm correct on the idea that he retained his S8 harness, then I would think that if an S8 harness can make it happen, an S6 should be able to.

Is there a thread on this?

Better book screen time for a few hours. Enjoy!

{I recall Ceylon saying he was going to install cruise control. As you will see he gets sidetracked (in a good way) quite often.)

Yeah cruise on an FD is a super simple system with few dependencies. Quite an easy retrofit, I wouldn't swap any looms for it, easier to make an extra loom just for cruise, that's what I did .

We are looking for your you tube install post.

(I remember why I remember, now. You were looking for a part or two.)

I would be very keen on how to make this happen.

I have various bits of the RHD cruise control from a Type X. Let me know if you need anything. For instance the RHD throttle cable for the RHD is shorter.

What all do you have? I might possibly just take all of it, depending on how hard fashioning a subharness is.

I will take a dig into my bins, once the flooding in the back yard stops.

That is a significant amount of water. Yikes. Be safe. Let me know when you find out what all you have in terms of RHD cruise control parts (as well as the LHD parts that are interchangeable.) I really appreciate it! Thank you again!

For reference.

Circuit board and plug with lights for automatic position and cruise control

reverse. The face of tach would need to have see throughs for those. I have seen USDM Manual tachs with the windows.

Cruise control system components

Section Q of the electronics manual lists the following components:

Q-01 Cruise Control Unit X
Q-02 Cruise Control Main Switch Y
Q-03 Brake Switch (Cruise Control) Y
Q-04 Cruise control Activator X
Q-05 (F2-04) Cruise Control Switch (Steering Wheel) X

"X" indicates the units I believe I have

"Y" indicates the units I might have

That seems pretty comprehensive for a SRS equipped car, do you happen to have the non SRS cruise setup in the manual?

Haha. That may take some looking. Section Q is specifically for the Cruise Control. So would not apply to non-cruise. Ergo most of that stuff would likely be absent. I wonder about the "Brake Switch (Cruise Control)" though.

USDM Automatic with cruise and airbag

USDM Manual without cruise but possibly with airbag

The above shows the flexiboard from an automatic and a manual. We at looking for the harness with the connector that goes into the black square socket. Note: such socket is missing from the Manual board.
