94 rx7

An old guy has a 94 touring. Maybe he wants to sale it. It has about 50k miles. I pretty sure that he has not beaten it. Do u think the engine will need a rebuilt soon ??

i dunno. have him get a compression check on it. Knowing how well the seals are holding currently would be a big indicator...in the 9s would be safe, low 7s or 6s...possily watch out (dammit, I cant remember what compression numbers are, the last sheet I looked at was 6 months ago.)

There's also a coolant seal test you can do....It will tell you how good the coolant seals are by showing different colors in the result....I forgot what each color means though. Also, the test will stretch the engine, be careful.

good point, mightyslash...my bad...while you're at it, check the turbos, and everything else...

I mean there's a test for the coolant o-rings (water seals, coolant seals etc. whatever you want to call them). Forget it, maybe you havent heard of it.

By the way, there's only 50k miles on the engine. It should last a while. I wouldnt worry too much. If you have problem performing the tests we mentioned, just see how the engine idles and see if it uses coolant....If it idles smooth and doesnt use any coolant, you should be fine.
