94 Pettit Unlimited on a 93?

May be a stupid question, but I seem to recall reading somewhere on here that the Pettit Unlimited ECU for a 94 will actually work on a 93. Yes? No? I found a used one from GoRacer, but it ain't no good to me if it don't work!

When I talked to Petit, they said 94 ECU has provisions for EGR. 93 cars, except for California ones, didn't have this. Petit said that they've seen cases where the 94 ECU on a 93 car didn't work so they were strongly suggesting I not try it unless I had a California car. My car is originally from California so I gave it a shot. Turned out to work fine, and I haven't had any problems with it.

You should give them a call if you have questions. They are excellent people to deal with. They had no problems answering my questions about the ECU even though I was getting it used from someone on the forum.

Thanks guys for replying to this thread. If I sell it by july 20th I can upgrade/purchase the PFC from jt-imports.

This is everything I know...
Installed: 08-20-99
sold by: Rapid Rotary is Mazdas and more (Kent, WA)
Receipt says: computer box
Chips labeled: Superchips

Rapid Rotary told me they sent it to Pettit Racing when I was checking on car before purchase. They also did the turbo rebuild.

Superchips said they haven't sold chips for RX-7 in like 10 yrs or the past 5 the guy worked there.

I tried uploading pics but I had to shrink them so small that you can't read the receipt. I can email it upon request.

I purchased the car in WA but it's a CA model, so it "does" have EGR. I've heard of people using 94's in a 93 but I have no idea if the EGR is a problem in a non-CA car (or Canadian models).

^ was told it was done by Pettit. It wouldn't be a unlimited because they don't like to do those and advice against it. I was told there was no need to upgrade because the stock fuel system maxes (100%) at 14.7lbs which is what the limited version fuel cut is raised to. It can not control bigger injectors and fuel pump, so what's the point.

I posted a pic of the receipt and chips on the other thread. I will try to call Pettit and SuperChips again but it's still a CA model with EGR. I do not know as of yet if Superchips tuned the chips or Pettit bought blank chips from them. Bascially they all (KnightSports, M2, etc.) just remap the OEM specs trading fuel efficiency for higher power. I don't want to mislead anyone though and thats why I posted everything I did.

Petit told me they actually add daughter boards to the stock ecu. It's not just one new chip. Ask them and they will tell you what numbers should be inside the ecu case. That should help you identify if it's from them or not.
