Just got my BI-State Custom turbos

Yep, I ordered some rebuilt turbos from BI-State Customs. Still waiting on my warrantee to come in the mail. But I'll let everyone know what I think of them when I get my car up and running next week.

Is it normal that when I spin one of the compresser wheels I hear a metallic squeaking noise??? A fellow 7 member tells me this will likely go away once I have pressurized oil running through the turbos...

They look pretty good, there are afew visible cracks near the exaust manifold and inside the turbo housings but I guess thats normal???

It'll be interesting to see the numbers you generate from these turbos, so we can see how they compare to BNR and M2.

Its normal (from what I've been told) to see some visible cracks in those areas.

Please keep us informed of their performance.

Sounds good, no more spinning.

BTW, I'm going to be running the non-seq setup on these suckers.

Umm...I know about the usual cracks in the exhaust manifold, but inside the turbo housings? Where exactly are they?

I was at Bi-State today. Didn't see anything fitting the description. That's why I'm wondering.

Are they advertised as used turbos? I have never heard of this company. Cracks in the exhaust housing is ok , (but not great) as long as they hide behind the gasket.

I shined my little key chain light down into the insides of one of the exaust ports on a turbo housing and saw a little hairline crack on the inside, not near where the gasket would be. I have to wait till my friend gets off work before I could get a picture posted.

When I bought the turbos I was told there were no cracks what so ever. I was thrilled by this comment by this but skeptical, thats why Im not surprised to find afew cracks. I cant pull the turbo housings off as I dont want to void the warantee, if that does in any way I wont know because no paper work came with the turbos so Im still waitin gon that as well.

I think Eric (Resource) sent it out yesterday, or he was supposed to have. So that will be here soon too, no worries on my part. Just making sure afew cracks are normal.

If they sold them to you with the promise of no cracks then Iwould conntact them back and definitely get them exchanged with a set with NO CRACKS. Cracks can grow and shorten the life of the turbo, You want the most life out of them as you can get right?

Greg, You had asked us if there were no cracks on the manifold side of the turbos and I answered no. I don't know if you're putting them under a microscope or what but we didn't see any cracks. Greg didn't buy the upgraded twins from us. He just bought the basic rebuilds. We always check for noises before letting them leave but if you think you hear something then check for possible shipping debris inside the inlet. If you aren't happy with them then we'll be more than happy to exchange yours with another rebuilt set.

We should be able to get your warranty paperwork in the mail by saturday. We're waiting on the printing company to finish them.

After thinking about it a little more. I'm absolutely positive that there are no cracks on the turbo manifold.

Are oyu sure the crack isn't a variance in the casting that looks deep because of the coating bi-state uses? I have a set of their twins and they look fantastic. Won't know how they perform for a week or two though.

I'll get my car dynoed for the hell of it once the motor is broken in which should be by monday.

After the engine is all in and working I'm going on a road trip w/ afew friends, floating a keg down the guadalupe Figured, if I have to break in the motor, might as well take a short vacation if I can.

Give Resource the benefit of the doubt. Show the pic of the crack, let it be resolved from there. I'm sure Bi-State customs wouldn't be willing to screw someone now...not with all the advertising they have been doing.

If there is a mistake they should fix it...if no mistake, then you get what you pay for.

Post pics if you can and like I said before. If you aren't totally happy with them we'll exchange them for another set but like I said we thoroughly inpected the turbos before they were sent out. We actually had your set of turbos out for display for quite a long time for all of our customers to see.
