Thumbs up 93'-up convertibe !!!

HELP. I am planning to modify a 3gen RX-7 (FD) to a convertible. I know there are several of those running around the world. Can anybody give me information about where its done and or how. Any information is welcome

No idea where it is done, but if you do it, you will be giving up a lot of the handling characteristics of the car. The structural integrity will go way down and the car will flex really bad. The roof supplies alot of the structural integrity of FD.

But good luck.

yea man if you do it the whole structure will go to ****. I heard of a guy who did it and the whole car couldnt support itself and the whole car had to be scrapped. The whole frame has to be like redone to get it right so its not even worth it. The only way you shoudl do it is if you have a shitload of money and you send it to liek RE to have it done which wont probably happen and check out the convertible FD thread in the Exterior section for a huge discussion on it

Well I have 2 FD models, one I am currently driving and one that was wrecked during a joyride, so it needs rebuiling anyway

I think the idea has some potential, but there is a lot more to it that just cutting the roof off and making a rag top. (so it seems from the pics) The car just looks like a coupe that had the roof cut off...but, with some custom fiberglass work and reshaping of the rear end/rear fenders it could look pretty good. Thats a lot of work though, too much work in my opinion. It's hard to find a better convertible car than the 355 spyder in my opinion.

I think the last picture actually looks very very good except for the door handles. he needs to figure out something with those maybe make the remote controlled and have no door handles at all. I like it but would never do it to my car. If you want a convertible turbo rx7 just buy a 2nd gen and put the turboII motor and all its goodies in and there you go.

Ick, makes it look like a Miata with a body kit. Sad part is I bet it doesn't even handle as well as a Miata now : ).

man, that thing looks horrible!

and the guy sitting in the car looks like he is 12 years old!

P.S. good luck if/when you flip/roll your car, the car will be riding you...
