93' Fd Doesnt like to run when hot. Need Help.

Working on my FD for the past couple days made me realize that once i start my car up and let it run for a little, and then turn it off, I am not able to start the car back up. But once the car cools down it will start up right away. I read that this can be a semi common problem with 7's and i was just wondering if anyone has any tips. Thanks.

Yea it will click, but it wont turn over. But if i let the car sit for a while and let it cool off, It will crank and turn over no problem.

its not to common unless you got a problem like low compression.

Sounds like a bad starter solenoid to me, or some other electrical problem

Engine compression has nothing to do with the car turning over or not.

same here,, well its is most likely a weak connection or bad starter.

Could be your coil pack. On most vehicles/motorcycles/lawn mowers when the ignition coil goes bad everything runs fine while the vehicle is cold but as soon as things warm up the motor usually dies from the coil pack overheating.

Nope. The coils are not the problem. They have nothing to do with the engine not wanting to turn over on a hot start.

Well, unless the FD is just that much different with it's ignition system than everything else, they most certainly can be the problem. If a coil is going bad/gone bad, once the coil itself reaches a certain temp the car will die. Once the temp of the coil goes back down the car will start but not as long as the coil is still hot. We're assuming here that his car dies when it itself gets hot but it could be because of certain ignition components getting hot instead of the car itself.

I've never seen a car die because of a starter solenoid. Bad solenoids will cause a car not to start period...hot or cold.

Not a coil problem...

As the others have said, bad coils won't make the starter not crank the engine.

Also, as they have said, it's a bad solenoid, or a marginal contact (battery terminal corrosion, etc.) that has too much resistance when hot.

I talked with Ray at Malloy Mazda and gave him these exact symptoms and he said that the "ignition coil" could be loosing all spark once the coil itself heats up. He said with these symptoms he does not see how it could be the solenoid or the starter.

Please feel free to call Ray 1-888-533-3400

This thread has nothing to do with when the car is running. This thread is about the car not turning over when trying to start when it is hot. Not turning over has NOTHING to do with the coils. Perhaps you should read the thread more carefully.
