93 Auto RX7 Cuts out a bit at low RPM- Questions please!

my RX7 seems to be cutting out
about once a day at low RPM
when the car is still cool.

1. is this normal?
2. WHAT causes this? (because the car is still cool or what)?
3. could it be the fuel filter not getting fuel to the car?

its only at low low RPM when i'm barely like leaving a parking lot...
sometimes after its been sitting a while and sometimes after its been running a while to cool down.

like i said, it does it maybe one time a day and then no more.

just hoping this is normal as i dont want to leave any surprises for when i sell it.

thanks!

What do you mean by "cut-out", like car shuts off or just hesitates or power loss. Can you describe what rpm does it do this and what temp is your engine at at this time.

When does this occur? Most FD's have a hesitation at 3k rpm.

1. At 3000 RPM, this is normal. Known as "the 3k hesitation"
2. Double throttle control
3. Not likely

4. It can get worse as time goes on. An aftermarket fuel computer (PFC/Haltech/AEM) can prevent this from occuring.

its lower at maybe 2000 RPM.
the car is still pretty cool, but not cold (maybe like 1/4 of the way up on the temp gauge)...

its like, i get rolling, and push the gas about 1/2 way down and it doesnt go any faster... and it feels like the car is cutting out - like it's about to idle to low and die or some crap)

but its only like once a day or so, but still pisses me off.

when it starts to happen, i push the gas down farther and it doesnt go, then i push it had and it takes off.

feels like the car is idling too low, but thats not it because i'm already going in drive.

only happens when the car is somewhat cool but not totally cold.

any ideas!!??

I had that problem too, it has something to do with the fuel delivery, i switched over to non sequential and now experience the same cut at 3 K... known to most people as a 3k hesitation... the 2k hesitation went away though..

May want to check your cat and precat if you still have them....mine did that and it turned out to be a completely clogged precat.

i have the same problem. it feels like the car is getting to much fuel or not enough. maybe its just running really rich until it warms up. it may be a grounding problem. some days its worse than others. what are your mods?

OK I GOT AN UPDATE!!

it seems like it shifts into second at too low an RPM making it stall and
seem like its not getting enough fuel - or liek its gonna die.

when i go slow through traffic, the car shifts into second/sometimes 3rd and put it at a LOW LOW
RPM like 1000...

making it stall out a little.
then i have to push the gas harder to get the RPMs up.

whats the deal?
TRANNY?
etc

i need to know please!
thanks !

Yes, the tranny's logic is to shift into the highest gear possible, making the car awfully doggy. Most of use sort of go semi-automatic, meaning we often shift the selector manually and have learned to use the 'hold' feature to our advantage. Just keep the car in 'L' if you are buzzing around town and first warming it up. It will still shift to 2nd at the first opportunity it sees, unless you force it to stay in first gear by using the 'hold' feature. The car is beastly quick and fast if you force it to stay in first gear, it is much like a manual. But you can only go so fast this way......

it hits 2000 RPM...
its not like the 3K stall...

this is more like, the fuel is being cut at 2000RPM when i drive really slow.

WHATS THE DEAL!

Have had this weird behavior since I bought my car new. Did you ever get it solved? It was at my dealer several times while under warranty and they could not figure it out at all. Mick

Well, this just goes to show how useful this board is. I have a problem, get online, do the search and voila! I find people with the same problem.

I was leaving the parking garage after class today and I noticed my car hesitating as it was shifting to 2nd gear. I have an auto also. It seems that when I drive and have the gas pressed down only slightly, it wants to see that as a sign to shift prematurely. It feels like it bogs down and either it stays in second or it downshifts and goes into first. I think it's done this a couple of times before but only after the car has been sitting for a long while. But I am having the same symptoms as you guys;

It occurs around 2000rpm
It occrus only for a little while after my car has been sitting for some time
There is a jerky hesitation, sort of like it's dying, misfiring, etc.
Only seems to happen when it's trying to shift into 2nd gear

Now that we all know what it does... how can we get rid of it? Aside from using that hold function.

I have a 93' auto and it used to randomly shut down (about once or twice a day) when at a stand still or just rolling along at about 10 mph. My RPM's had only been hovering at around 500-600 and then sway back and forth quickly between 100-500 RPM's. It wouldn't take long before the shut down since it wasn't getting enough fuel while idling or coasting at low speeds. I'm not sure if your car has these same symptoms but it sounds similar to mine cutting off also

I fixed this problem almost completely by adjusting the idle. On the throttle there is a screw that you can turn to the right or left to gradually increase or decrease your idle. My car has run fine ever since I moved my idle to about 1000-1100 RPM.

when my 93 auto does that all i do is replace spark plugs and wires. cleans it right up. you might want to use some gas additive as well.
