Could be alot of things, read: http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/engine_codes.html and check out the codes. Also, refer to your shop manual for the meanings behind the codes you get.
I sometimes get code 57, but a quick KOKO fixes it

Flashing "hold" light like that on the 92+ FD's usually indicates a fault code present. If its not spitting out any codes, then it also means a problem with communication on the Auto trans ECU. It may not be able to see the sensors & soleniods. Check the harness to the trans if your unsure.

I think that if you cross the "tat" and "gnd" terminals of the diag. box, the hold light flashes the codes when you turn the switch on. That is the first thing to check. Mine flashes sometimes also....the only affect is that the "hold" function doesnt work while it is flashing...when it doesnt flash, it works fine...

i checked to see if the hold button works and it works fine...its just after 2-3 miles of driving the hold button starts to flash...then it goes away. same with my engine check lamp...which i think i may need to replace the o2 sensor...if that...still questionable.

The flashing hold light is similair to the check engine light but it is only for the auto tranny. Best bet is check the code(s) and go from there. Good luck.
