92 RHD FD bouncing idle?

i know there has been threads for this but none seem to out line what could be wrong with mine..

so my car ran fine three months ago then i started upgrading.

first i put on the m spec front mount replica from rx-7 store and got the odyssey battery, when originally installing it i hooked up the terminals wrong ( i know i feel like a douche don't worry) and blew the 120v fuse.
replaced it started it up to put coolant in but i did not have the intakes on because they were still in the mail.

so when i was filling the coolant was when i first noticed the rpms bouncing, i didn't think anything about it just that it must be doing that cause the filters were off.

so i put the filters on (greddy airinx) started it up it idled high for warm up then dropped a bit and started bouncing again, i found a round aluminum piece with three holes in it resting in the engine bay it had some black oily powder on it, but i could not figure if it came from the intake system or not.

so i took the car for a ride and the rpms dropped to about 8-900 but the vibrated really bad so i took it home parked it and the rpms went back to 1500 for a bit and then started bouncing.

WTF is wrong with my car? does anyone know what the round aluminum peice is with three holes in it, in a triangle pattern?

throttle body?! should have brass butterfly flaps on it controlled by the throttle cable, this allows a specific amount of air into the engine. Please take a few good detailed pictures of the part in question and post it on this thread, we will try to help you identify this.

I have one of those too, it came out of the inake hose that connects to the airpump. I believe its a restricter of some kind.

well going by the above poster, this would have no effect on crappy performance of the engine, or idle issues. i personally never have seen this part but i have no airpump so ya.

1. if you have a boost gauge, when you are idling try to note the vacuum pressure, or on pfc commander, check the vacuum pressure on there.
2. check the vac hose to the MAP sensor, this is a black box sensor screwed to the firewall behind the throttle body, make sure this vacuum line is connected very well and zip tied/superglued to prevent this from comming loose, this will def create performance and idle issues.

your vacuum pressure should be atleast -10psi or greater, really more like -14 to -18 psi on a new engine with zero vacuum/intake leaks. on the PFC Commander, vacuum and boost pressure is not in PSI, instead its in mm/hg, so mm/hg your looking for a value around -250mm/hg. if you vacuum pressure is much lower then -14psi/-250mm/hg it sounds like you may have an intake/vacuum leak, best way to detect those is to spray carb cleaner near any areas where their is a gasket and all vacuum line connections. these can be difficult to detect, in the end you may have to pressurize the entire intake track with a compressor and find where the air is leaking from.

hopes this helps.

np, im glad your issue wasn't complicated either, they usually are with the rx7 ;p
still can't believe a restricter plate for the airpump causes an issue with idle, since the airpump just takes air from the intakes and pumps it into the cat to help keep it at an optimal temperature. all that matters is that your car is running great.
