I let my sister drive my FD once (back when it was a modded TT car) and she got into a race with a Mustang and took it up to somewhere around 8500-9000 as indicated by the tach by accident. She didn't realize it would hit so hard when the turbos kicked in.

She beat the 'stang so badly that it wasn't even funny and he had about a 6 car head start! At the next light, the guys in the car were saying, "Damn... girly can DRIVE! Let me have your number!!!"

I have pulled my engine in my 3rd gen well over 9000 rpm a couple times...No big deal, you just don't make any power up there. I build a good motor so I am never worried.
thats nice....i love my rotary

why this higt

with out proper port design and turbo set up. U are just risking ur chance to destroy ur engine and for street port u are not making any power pass 7500. most of ROAD RACE CAR I seen they shift at 8000RPM-9000RPM. unless is DRAG race car.

makes sense. So will a huge streetport allow you to make power past 8500rpms?

If you're going to rev past 8000 on a consistent basis, your best bet is to have the motor built for that specific purpose with regard to clearances and seals, and additional preparations like balancing and cryo-treatment......

I have a very large street port, ceramic 3mm apex, balanced, and lightened rotors, oil mods, race bearings, ect. Another words.. I went overboard and spent way to much money.. However its worth the peace of mind when I rev to 9 grand.. and yes.. large street port, bridge port, periphial port.. you will make power for higher rpms.. Like the example used by Goodfella... drinking through a straw you cant get very much out of it.. now think about drinking through.. well how about drinking through a coffee stir' straw compared to a double big gulp straw

They make sure both rotors and the eccentric shaft is perfectly ballanced with extremely low tollerances.. Its nearly the same as blueprinting and ballancing a piston motor.
