why would you want a 6 speed?

Th car already tops out at 183mph with 5 gears, and its geared perfectly for the eninge

Why ask why? Maybe he's going to use the car for something different than you. Changing the gearing effects more than top speed. I get sick of reading that stuff.

Fair enough.

Personally, I get sick of reading posts asking about 6-speeds when the asker knows ****-all about gearing or why you'd use 6 gears instead of 5. All they seem to know is "6 is 1 better than 5".

Vipers have six gears JIM. RX-7's only have five. That must be because they are better then the RX-7. After all, the FD was modeled after the Viper.

The only reason to go 6 spd is if you are doing an LS1/LT1 swap

i didnt read this post the hole way through and i used to be like him. Because i had started a post about finding the legendary six speed transmission and i did find it at rotary extreme where they use the stock 5 speed transmission and add an extra gear. But frankly if you got this car to go as fast as you can you have to think about alot of things.

doing 180-200mph on the highway is possible but extremely dangerous
2. unless your racing at a race track dont even think about it.
3. six thousand dollars for another gear sounds tempting (because its a six gear) but is ricidilous
4. a transmission does make your car faster cause of the extra gear but you need good suspension, tires, aerodynamics, downforce, handling, skill, horsepower. By the time youll end up in this project youll be up in the $30,000. For god sake just leave the six speed alone.

Speaking of knowing ****-all about 6-speeds, the GReddy gear set is a close ratio gear set. 6th gear is actually shorter than the original 5th gear, which means a lower top speed than stock.

darkphantom, you shouldn't post any more.

both the 5 and six speed can have the same gear. on the final gear it was the same and we did get more speed out of the car?? thats the truth

the 5 speed did 160 and the six speed did 171mph. all gears and final gear ratio was the same. just the addition of the six gear

a stock RX-7 may be drag limited to 156-159mph, but that doesn't mean thats it's top speed. In this case, the car's theoretical top speed is much higher than 159mph due to gearing. I can't remember what a stock FD gearing is limited to(183mph? Thought it was higher than that).

Like Jimlab said, you shouldn't post anymore Darkphantom.

With enough power, 195-200 mph, especially with a taller tire (P275/40-17).

Yet, you're still an idiot and a liability in other ways. And that's why the little red square next to your post count is red.

The stock ratios should be good for around 190mph or so on stock rims/tires. I think my car could possibly break the 200mph mark with my 285/40/18's in the back. Not that I'd try.

darkphantom, I won't go as far as to say you shouldn't post anymore ever but you need to research quite a bit more before posting. You're on the right track but you have a little more learning to go.
