5th Gear Syncro/Transmission Rebuild

Tons of good threads and posts on this topic but I have some other items that I am looking for some help on.
Currently the bearings are on national back order. Does anyone have any recommendations for aftermarket bearings/with part numbers?

In addition to 5th Gear Syncro (W501-17-725C), lock nut (M501-17-309), updated spindle (R503-17-550), Spindle Gasket (S524-17-112). Does anyone have any other recommendations on what parts should be replaced while I have the transmission dropped and out?
I just rebuilt the shifter.

Thanks in advance

Did you check parts availability with Ray Crowe? If he doesn't have it, maybe try getting it direct from japan via amayama.com.

Beyond that, my knowledge of transmission rebuilds ends with the thread from dgeesman in the FAQ.

Man, I did this a while back and its smart to ask. I just did what some dude explained pretty well on a youtube video link below. My biggest mistake was stalling for so long because 5th cyncro stuff wasn't too bad but more importly not doing a new clutch while I was there. I swore I must have done something wrong but after pulling again my clutch decided it was done right at the same time. I had no idea how old it was as it came with the car and seems to have enough "meat" to hold up a while but ended up pulling the transmission 2 times. Also if you can borrow or pay someone to use a lift and tall transmission jack, it cuts the time down by about 5x. Good luck man. I found the parts in random places a few years back including ebay and mazda parts websites.

Do you have a bearing supply house nearby? Unless it's your only means of transport, a sample would be a foolproof method to get replacements - that's how the bearings were sourced here and should be cheaper than paying Mazda, Amayama, etc, a middleman fee. From memory, the gearbag had NTNs throughout and I'd be absolutely amazed none would be available at a house, unless the tarriff stuff has fucked up supply lines there already

Not sure if it's still the case (it was when the FD was still in production), one of the larger suppliers here used to have hardcopy cross reference of bearings used in multiple vehicles at the counter, it was supplied by SKF from memory .

I just rebuilt mine a few months ago. The bearings are always on "national back order" so I think it is just a special order part. Waited about a month for mine to get in. I also grabbed the updated shift fork, but you may not need it depending on your clutch setup. The only other thing I wish I did was replace the return spring on the opposite side of the turret to the shift spindle. The new spindle being so stiff makes the other spring feel kind of anemic.

I wouldn’t reuse the input shaft seal or the output seal, resurface the FW . Maybe re-torque tension bolts while the FW is out.
Since they’re not terribly pricey, consider a new clutch fork and pilot bearing if you’re unsure on history and especially if you’re considering any upgraded clutch package.
