It will be, though when is the real issue. To me these turbine housings have a lifespan of about 60k-70k.

I posted a thread on this issue at:

http://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generatio...cking-1171087/

My stock housing with ~70K miles was much worse than this one and created no problems at all. Presumably the crack will eventually grow to compromise the gasket seal which will create issues. How long that will take is an open question however.

How many miles are on the housing or were these supposed to be new?

BNR advertises them as “low mileage” cores. They actually look pretty good compared to the core I sent them. I was just looking for opinions on the utility of the turbo. Will I get another 60k out of them?

it's an issue when the exhaust gaskets start to fail, and that one is half way through the gasket sealing surface.

unfortunately can't blame BNR, used turbos are heat cycled many many times before they even get them. cast iron and high heat will do this, naturally.

have pulled MUCH worse off of cars that still ran and boosted quite decently. i wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I would circle back around with BNR.

See if they can swap it out NOW, because it could become a problem down the road - and at that point they can’t help.

If this is what you received from BNR as a fresh set of reman turbos I would send them back. Yes they are rebuilding used cores, but they have a choice of which cores they reuse and resell as a reman part. For the price BNR charges, this is not a defect I would be willing to accept.

as time goes on, the choice of "good cores" diminishes. this might be the best one they had, and it's only going to get worse over time.

personally i always chose the best parts to rebuild, but that pile quickly grew to grade B, then C and hopefully never grade D parts.

To be clear, the turbos themselves are new, along with the actuators. The refurbished part is the center cast iron manifold. I’ve decided to install it. It’s still a good price overall and should last a while.
