5th Gear Syncro Repair

How much does this job generally cost if it was only the syncro repair and no clutch replacement. I'm buying another car that needs one and I need to adjust the purchase price to compensate for the repair.

holy crap, you guys are so fricken lucky you can get your trannies rebuild for so cheap, I can only guess that it cost 2k+ to rebuild seeing as a friends of mines FC has his tranny rebuild lately and it cost about 2k for his to be redone

$500 or so is only for the 5th gear syncro, and not for the whole transmission.

i think the 5th gear synchro is like 30$ from mazdacomp.. You can supposedly change out the 5th gear syncrho without removing the tranny, just by pulling the driveshaft, i have yet to do it though.

hey skunks, It would probably be cheaper to just ship the transmission to the continental US to have it done. Actually, I have no idea what the shipping costs would be. You could always try to do it yourself. Hey, if some dumbass grease monkey at a chevy dealer can rebuild a transmission, I think just about anyone could.

is it $500 dollars to have a shop do it, or is it $500 for the fith gear senqro itself? I whould love to try to install a whole kit in my 93 this summer but do not know if I am up for the 1200 dollar expense! for fith gerar is the only one that grinds or has trouble, bu i would like the whoel transmission to shift a little smoother! like the new motor and rebuilt turbos!

I paid Mazda $900. It was under warranty so I only had to put up $100.
