Question 5 speed trans syncro information inquiry

I have some syncro issues in my 93 FD. I imagine the parts are available. I don't send out anything so looks like I will be refreshing my trans in the future. Any help/information as to where to get the parts along with opinions on the job it self. I assume the unit is serviceable.

The transmissions are serviceable, yes. Do you have a Factory Service Manual? That's probably your best reference. I think pretty much everything is removeable by gear pullers and snap ring pliers. I'm planning to use AutoZone borrow tools when I overhaul mine. I figure my 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd could be better, plus the bearings in the bellhousing are in rough shape. But I'm lazy and I have a very small garage, so I need to get off my duff and clean myself some workspace first.

There are a couple of write-ups on the 5th gear synchro replacement, that ought to give you a taste of a complete overhaul. Parts are best bought from Ray at Malloy Mazda, (888) 533-3400.

theres a great write up somewheres (you should be able to find a link on here)
the guy went through everything with pics.....

Do this job with a friend and lots of workspace...label everything with its name and order inwhich you pulled it out....its not that bad of a job...

your gonna need 2 sets of bearing pullers like dgeesaman said..also you gonna need C clamp (retainer clip) pullers/pliers and some rtv

Thanks for the heads up, I do have a factory manual and I too have a small garage. I will search again for the write up. This will be a trans on the chest job and surely its going to be another challenging job.

DISCLAIMER: This is not my writeup. I found it on the forum a few years ago and kept it in case it was lost (as the forum was unstable at that time). Seems it was a good idea as I haven't found it again.

If the original owner is still here (and sees this), let me know so I can stick your name on it.

I had an idea for keeping organized cheaply:

Buy a box of ziploc bags with the white labels on them. Go through the FSM, and label one bag for every part you can find, as well as the page in the FSM where it's mentioned. Also, make a convention: such as label side of the bag faces the engine. Then, when you tear down, put every piece in the bags as you get to them. A clamp-type paper clip should work to keep a group of parts together in the correct order.

Oh, and you might consider buying a cheap tranny jack from Harbor Freight. They are $70, and a while ago they went on sale for $45, but like a dumbass I missed it. They also have a tranny jack attachment for a regular jack for about $40.
