3rdgen auto/man tranny conversion
Hello out there..new to the site and the rx7 world.. I am trying to find my first rx7. I have been looking now for a month or so trying to find something that is in my budget and that I can build up. So far everytime I find a rx7 in my price range it is a auto tranny..Was curious on your input on converting a auto trans to manual trans! I have been told by one shop so far the it is very costly and time consuming(not worth it). Any information would be greatly appreciated?
I do plan on removing the entire drive train and building the car from scratch!
THANKS-Michael

You'll probably spend more $$ converting the auto to a 5spd than waiting and getting the 5spd.
You need:
Trans
Clutch
Flywheel
Driveshaft
Diff
Starter
Shifter
pedal assembly
clutch master, slave and all the lines
engine harness from 5spd
5spd tach and speedo (I'm not positive on the speedo)
ECU

George is the man when it comes to 5 speed swaps. Check out the info on the swap at my site here - http://jrx7.rx7life.com/auto5speedswap.htm

I figure if I am going to be taking the car apart anyways...and putting performance upgrade..why not? But that is coming from a guy that only knows how to currently work only on Chevy's! I intend on working on this car and get it running fast right away rather than upgrading a little at a time. It's going to be garaged for a while till I get everything I want..."project car" for my own amusement.
