3rd Gen. Rx-7 questions

I have a few questions regarding 3rd Gen. Rx-7's, any help would be great.

1 .Whats the Reliability of a used 3rd Gen. Rx-7, of 50k - 130k miles?

2a. Are there any maintenance items. Ie. With my TT 300zx, around 80k I replaced the DOHC timing assembly, water pump.

2b. What interval do you change spark plugs?

3. Twin turbo or single turbo model? (Pump Gas)
Over time, I plan to get all the support mods to support for high 400's low 500 hp at the wheels.. If that has any value as to what model I should get.

4a. I've read a post about synthetic vs conventional oil in the rotary motor, I couldn't come to a answer. I've used synthetic in my TT 300zx till the day I sold it, I know mazda doesn't recomend it in the manual.. so I read.

4b.I also read in that same thread, about adding 2 stroke oil, 4oz mixed with every fill up. Is that needed?

5. Hate to sound like a noob even more, what does 'FD' stand for?

6. What horsepower will the stock internal's support? On that note, if anyone knows, how much will the stock turbo's support? (Pump gas, methanol)

7. Could anyone recomend a tunner in Michigan/Ohio Area? My father owns a 2000 Mustang, Stroker moter, vortech car (could go on), but his tunner is a Ford onlyy guy.

Thank you for time and insights.
Jeff

FAQ: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/

1) There is no answer to that question. I just hope it's not going to be your daily driver.
2) See the FAQ and links for maintenance

3) Start with a mildly modded car and take a year of doing no mods first. 500hp on a 1.3L engine is not topic to be discussed along with question 1.
4) Either one works. Premix is only needed if the stock oil metering system isn't working or removed.
5) See the FAQ
6) See the FAQ, run a few searches. There are many discussions that describe it. I suggest you start with the FAQ link under "Advice" to get a feel for it.

I believe most the answers will be found here. FYI, FD's only came in twin turbo. Single turbo is an upgrade.

FD is the chassis ID in the Vin #

Use the link above.

Thanks for all your fast replies.

Yes I agree that 500 rwhp, would be a bit much for a street rx-7.
400 is my goal.

Its only going to be a summer, spring, fall car.

Another question..

Could anyone recomend a tunner in Michigan/Ohio Area? My father owns a 2000 Mustang, Stroker motor, vortech car (could go on), but his tunner is a Ford only guy.

If you haven't already, check out http://www.rx7store.net/. They're supposed to start dyno tuning services in February 2007. Not sure where Sterling is, but rx7store is located in Columbus, OH.

edit: Actually, I know they are moving to a new building, not sure if that's the new location or not, but someone else on the forum should know.

The best rotary tuners come to you. You can pay to have Steven Kan, Brian Cain, Amemiyasan(LOL!!!) to fly out to you and tune your car. Otherwise, you can take the car to a tuner. There's RX7 Store in Ohio, KD Rotary in PA, JP Rotary in New Jersey, Gotham Racing in Texas, BDC in Texas...

The one thing I will say, and I'll give you 1000 "I told you so"'s if you don't listen, is only get your rotary tuned by someone who is an established rotary tuner. There's a lot more to it than just a/f ratios, not to mention, Rotaries need to be much richer than piston engines to work and live.

I was doing a lot of reading in the FAQ's, is there any difference in the R1 motors, compared to a Turbo Rx-7 ?

Also, are all base 3Gen. Rx-7's turbo-charged? I'm in a little debate about it, have to head back to my old motor trend issues I suppose.
