35 yrs & older
I can't wait until we all turn 65. Then we can have an FD get together at the local IHOP and get the senior's discount. While there we can complain about how hard it is to get in and out of these danged cars and how the food at IHOP always seems to give us terrible gas
This thread is great!! I'd like to know how many of the 35+ crowd...have stock exterior FD's??
I was 17 when I bought my 1st RX-7 (1991 FC) didn't know **** about RX-7, but knew it was a blast to drive and it had a rotary engine...whatever the fawk that means?!?!?! Couldn't afford an FD until after college, first thing I bought! Bought it when I was 23 and now it's powered by a motor I built.
I'm 25 going on 35...grumpy old fart as my girlfriend says.

I'm 20 (stock exterior)... I didn't realize how many of you are old farts
Sometimes it can be refreshing to have a younger base, I come from the British car crowd; you think it's hard for a young person to gain respect from other fd owners???? Hah, try rolling up to a British car show and spend all day having people say, "Tell your dad I love his car", "ask you how your dad how he did this", or "what cam did your dad use".... grrrrrr

so the other show your stock exterior FD thread, was just another old guy check in
BTW, My car is stock exterior too.
Afterburn27 - very cool cars. I had the same feeling when I first starting driving my FD, I turned many heads, and use to think they were all thinking, "oh, look at that boy driving daddy's car" I was very proud to be driving my FD. Even prouder now...

That change overlays nicely with the immortality perception younger people have. I bought my 93 in 93 at the the tender age of 22. It's amazing I didn't get into more trouble than I did at that age with such a car after I made it a little faster.

I am with Hugh Sperry - 50 years young stuck at 21!!
BTW I am new to the threads. I Own at 93 red FD touring model that had 12,000+ miles on it when I bought it 4 years ago. Has 107K on it now, and a new block. Still going strong. Only mods are a down pipe, custom muffler, boost gage, shock tower brace, vented and drilled rotors.
The wife has a black R1 which she is trying to sell.

If it had been released in 1987, it would have been ahead of its time...
If mazda would of saved money on developing sequential twins and went with a nice well sized single and a few other minor things, it would have been way ahead of the game but that unfortunately is a big would of been.
Well ok then. Since the topic digressed some and a few of the younger crowd has posted, here I go.
I am 24, bought my FD two years ago. Just blew the motor, going to single with a race port. Ouch this is going to hurt the pocket book and Christmas.
Mine is still in stock form besides the rims, exhaust (if that counts as cosmetic) and my CF feed door handles. The huge FMIC also breaks from the stock look. But otherwise it is a stock red R1. Very nice lines, why change them.
Anyways I am glad to see that the 3rd gen is liked by all ages and all ages still have the bug to modify there cars. I thought I would be the only one many years later still modifying my FD. Few I am not alone.

It was SIMPLY the BEST sports car of its day for under 50k and the BEST sports car today for under 20k. Also one of the BEST chassis ever made period. Will you settle for that Jim?
Basically stop turning sugar into ****. The FD is an awesome car and always will be. I'm still pissed it wasn't included in the 100 best cars article from Automobile Mag.
