300 ft lbs of torque!

I am having trouble finding somewere to rent a torque wrench or torque multiplier that will go that high for the flywheel nut. I found a torque wrench that can go up to 600 ft lb but that was 300 dollars and i would rather rent one.
Anyone know a store that i can rent one at, im in REno Nevada BTW.

the way to do it w/o a torque wrench that big is to torque to 150ft-lbs then turn it another 60 degrees with a breaker bar. that gets u just about 350ft-lbs

Not really necessary. I use an Ingersol-Rand 1/2" drive titanium impact gun. It is rated to about 600 ft/lbs and over 700 in reverse. Just start it by hand anse blast it on full power. The flywheel nut doesn't really have to be precisely torqued. I also use lock-tite on the e-shaft threads and then silicone on the nut face as per the mazda manual.

just put a 2 foot total length pipe on your socket wrench and hang from it or stand on it, if you weigh around 150 the torque will be correct. you can adjust the length of the pipe to your weight so you end up with the correct torque.

I rented one for a day from a local tool rental place. It was $20 or so.

+1 I got the red one a couple months ago and still going strong. I pulled two flywheels off last weekend with it and no problems. Had a blow torch as a back up.

+1

Torque flywheel nut to 150 (use blue locktight), take a marker and put a mark on the flywheel right next to one of the points of the nut, then move counter clockwise to the very next point on the nut (60 degrees) and put a mark on the nut on that point. Grab impact gun or breaker bar, and turn it another 60 degrees so the marks line up and you are done.

Don't waste your money on a special tool.
