2nd gen discs on 3rd gen car?

i have a set of second gen discs in my garage. The stud pattern is ok as you all know, but they are a little smaller than the 3rd gen discs. The only other difference that i can see is that the locating hub screws are in a different place.

If i re-drill these locating screws to fit, will i be ok using the discs?

has anyone ever done this? I know it sounds stupid, but i was wondering if anyone has done it?

If anyone has done it, I doubt they'll admit to it since you can get the correct sized rotors on ebay for dirt cheap. Most people are looking for bigger brakes, ie more mass to absorb heat, where as your talking about using a smaller rotor...just check on ebay and grab some stock size rotors.

By "a little smaller" do you mean smaller in diameter? If so, then the outside edge of the pads would overhang the od of the rotor. I can not see how that would be good at all.

BTW, last week i stumbled across and read through your thread on the rebuild of your red car. Nice work.

Definitely go with stock sized rotors. I don't know why anyone would want to go smaller than stock. Mazda engineers put that size on there for a reason. I can understand upgrading the brakes while upgrading power and suspension as well, but I could never imagine wanting to go smaller.

He's a drag racer at heart and doesn't want to carry any extra weight up the strip

I've read that the rotor hat offset is different on the FC and FD rotors, so for that alone they won't fit.

It wouldn't fit if you tried, the FC rotors have alot of offeset, were the the FD have almost none.
