those mods can kill people just as fast, if left in the hands of someone irresponsible. This goes for someone that can't remember to leave there car in neutral also. Also he said he wants a turbo timer feature which means it will always be left in neutral anyways.

many moons ago.. i had auto-start clifford blackjax system in my GTI VR6 MK3. It was winter, if I used the ebrake my calipers would freeze up so i left my car in gear. my boss came into my office and pressed all the buttons on my remote, I stared at him and said WTH ARE YOU DOING? he said don't worry we're too far it won't reach your car.

we went outside and my vr6 pushed his audi a4 up onto the curb (torque!). his bumper was scratched to **** and my bumper was smashed. the car infront of him was also scratched.

downside to auto start on manual :P

dei has a kit to add to manual cars that want remote start that makes you do a certain sequence before you leave the car to make sure its in neutral.

A modified exhaust isn't going to crush a child between two parked cars if someone accidentally remote starts their vehicle in gear. A larger turbo isn't going to do this (although some claim to eat babies), racing seats won't do this, etc.

So you see, there is a danger with an illegally installed remote start system. And, the lawsuits that you would be undertaking would be a bonus too. And the fact that if you kill someone, you are responsible for vehicular manslaughter I or II depending on the judge.
Damn that is some F'D up stuff to see happen, but since you put it that way it's much clearer to me what "illegal install" would mean.

This is why you have them professionally installed so that you do not run into incidents like this. I just spent $450.00 for the alarm + installation (which is cheap IMO) on my car. I have the Clifford 2 way system installed on my car and it is amazing. It has a 1 mile range, it will do remote start and I also have a turbo timer programmed into it so that the car will lock and shut off after x amount of minutes.

I live in an apartment complex and my car is in a parking garage and traditionally I would have to sit in the car for 15 minutes until I felt the car was somewhat warmed up and drivable. Now, I simply press a button and get in my car 20 minutes later and its good to go.

As for the saftey and liability concerns - the remote start (if professionally installed) will simply not work if the car is in gear, e-brake is not engaged, or if the alarm goes off for any reason be it a tap or a broken window.

Just got an Autopage 727 installed this week
(my friend opened up a shop on Monday and this was a way for me to give him business)

Functions:
1. autostart (i have 5spd)
2. door unlock. he couldn't get the one actuactor on the driver side door to open the passenger side. Guess not enough 'umph' to trigger both sides. Need to go back and have another actuator installed on the passenger door.
3. door lock/unlock
4. 2-way pager with LCD remote

I live in Texas, not that I need autostart, but it was cool.
Also, another thing that sold me was this alarm has a "turbo charge mode"

Essentially, it acts like a turbo timer.
Get to your destination, hit 2 buttons on the remote, remove your key, and the car idles for 1,3, or 5 minutes. (depending on how you set it up)
Saved me $110 on a Greddy turbo timer and harness.

$350 out the door. All wires soldered (where needed)

Yes, Clifford and Autopage both have turbo timer functions.

Both are also good quality systems.

Considering I am MECP master certified... when it comes to automotive electronics... yes. I do. Matter of fact, I do it better than the book. 100% of the time.

And actually, I do it better. I don't ever use T-Taps, all of my alarm systems are concealed to look factory, and if it isn't legal... I WON'T do it. I have done competition level vehicle re-wires for classic car shows. I just did a show quality wiring for a 65 Daytona Coupe Replica Kit Car last month.

As far as mechanical and emissions and such, I slouch there. But not when it comes to Mobile Electronics. Too many fire hazards and remote start hazards to do a hack job.

So you accuse me of only 'acting' like I do everything MECP related to the book eh? Well, it just so happens that you called out the wrong (MECP qualified) person. Now get off my porch, because this technician will slap you silly with "the book".

and just in case you didn't know:
MECP = Mobile Electronics Certified Professional
I am also DEI Certified (that has expired however, due to no longer being involved directly with a DEI company)

Any other questions?

I have a (probably 10 year old) Viper system. At one time it was the top level but now it's just eh because the cool features aren't enabled. It had a "turbo timer" built in with automatic locks and arming. Individual unlocks, support for trunk poppers, etc.

The only thing I use it for (since the good stuff isn't "on") is unlocking the doors since the drivers side door lock has gone to crap.

I'd like a two way pager system but I used to work in a building where two way devices were prohibited, so I never bothered with changing the system.

Exclamation Monk is the most OCD, ****, and tedious installer on the planet...

... and I would like to thank him for doing such an amazing job installing my alarm.

Monk,

Thank you for working so hard and spending as much time as it took to get everything perfect... and I do mean PERFECT. I have never seen such a clean install, probably because it is totally invisible. This weekend was quite the ******* adventure, chasing all those damn gremlins from one area to another, but you found them all and they were eliminated with extreme prejudice.

I have to be honest... there were two occasions that I lost all hope and considered just setting the damn car on fire in the field behind your house... but you never gave up and I was able to drive away with working tail lights and the most stealth alarm install EVER!

You are totally my hero!

It was a pleasure working for/with you! I'm glad we got your door trigger replaced, and your other gizmos hooked up. If you ever want to enable the additional options your alarm has, just let me know.

And you did a good job diving in and getting your hands dirty. You definitely helped me tailor the install to your preferences along with my standards nicely.

VIPER 5701, 5901, 5902. These all have the features you want and more including smart start capabilities. (You can use all of the functions you want and do it everywhere you have cell reception in the world if you have an iphone, blackberry, or droid). Check out Vipers website or ebay (ebay has the best prices).

Done the research and all of these systems have 85% of higher reviews. I personally am about to pick up 5901 this weekend.
