1st gear boost problem

hey guys...seems like sometimes im not hitting boost properly in 1st gear....sometimes i hit 10psi no problem but at other times it won't go past 5psi. And the car just gets louder and louder but no acceleration....I then try again and i hit 10psi to redline no problem..happens often...any thoughts?

Need some more info.
  • Sequential or non-seq?
  • Boost problem in entire rev range, or just in second turbo? (seq only)
  • What about other gears, do they always work?

seq setup...i have a dp, main cat and cb....seems like there's a problem when the 2nd turbo kicks in ...but sometimes it works fine..meaning i hit 10 lbs. Other gears are fine..10-8-10 ...first gear just seems like i have this power cutt and stuggles past 4000rpm to redline...car doesn't go faster and stops at 5psi...but like i said, if i do it again then sometimes it works fine..what could it be?

Check your vacuum lines behind the black pressure tank, under the UIM. Sometimes they pop off.

Hitting 2ndary boost in 1st gear is an anomoly. I either get it or I dont boost leak or not. It seems to depend on the boost level Im running. Ive heard things from it being the ECU and so forth but its not. Some people I talk to say theyve never had 2ndary boost in 1st gear. But I get it off and on.

One day last week (first and last time its happened) I didn't get the second turbo to come on in 1st or 2nd gear. It's probably a problem with the CRV.

Thats what I was thinking. Either CRV or TCA. There's so little time for a slow moving TCA to work when at WOT in 1st gear that I would think that could create a dip. But the same is true of the CRV. (Holy ****, how many acronyms can I use at once?)

Did you check out http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-...leshooting.htm ? That site has tons of good turbo troubleshooting info. Nothing directly related to 1st gear boost issues, but you can find procedures for testing the TCA and CRV.

Not here. Full transition in 1st gear whenever I need it. Actually, I had never tested it until Adam asked me about it a while back.

Inspect the check valve going to the pressure tank. If all the other gears are fine, it could just be that check valve. If not, then it's possible your Turbo Control solenoid is having problems, or it could be one of many other problems.

This thread isn't quite your problem, but may have some info to help you:

check valves going to pressure tanks make sense, check them for bleed off, they might hold a little pressure but under the heat conditions they might slowly bleed or react slowly

once you run through other gears, it has built up enough pressure and it works great
