you have to take off the alternator and thermostat housing then itll be freed up the black bracket leans in between the alternator and the pulley up front

OK cool, got it. easy enough, now my next question; best way to clean off and seal the new gasket, does it need any sealant or just a good cleaning and put on the new gasket, seems to be a pain to clean off at the moment and dont really want to take an abrasive to it

also, the seal looks fine, i would say, any chance it might be a seal like between the blades and the pulley, seems unlikely but just curious.

More than likely it is leaking water from the weep hole... which is a sign of a worn out pump. Time for a new pump.

New oem pump and new oem gasket, with a thin coating of hylomar ideally. Hopefully you cleaned the mating surface well with a razor blade, or you'll have a leak.

Btw, you got robbed at $250 if that was an oem pump. Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda sells them for half that.

It was the upgraded maz Mart but from the quality I would say I still got robbed ya razor and took a Brillo pad to it to smooth it out. Think the sealant is really neccesary? What's your reasoning, cause they don't use anything at the factory do they?

Thanks again guys

Hylomar is a gasket dressing and works excellent with coolant. We use it on every motor. Mazda gasket is papeer and will eventuallly leak, especially if the mating surfaces are less than perfect. Just don't use silicone there as it makes a mess.

Please post some pictures of your findings. This is a relatively popular upgrade, and it would be good to see for the reference of other potential users. Perhaps it had more miles on it than advertized?

Thanks in Advance,
Dave

I would contact Maz Mart for a replacement. I have had a brand new OEM pump fail with in 45 minutes of road racing, so it does happen. Got a free replacement and it has been good since (about 100 hours on it now). So sounds like you just got unlucky and got a defective pump.

So is just regular old advance auto permatex hylomar ok? Or should I use something else?

And also got my new pump on Friday and I have to swap the pulley, before I go an attempt to tackle it with no experience, any tricks or tips to getting it off and swapping it?

Thanks guys.

IMHO, the Mazmart pump is money well invested.
