13B rebuild question

Ok im new to the RX7 seen, and I know you have probably had this question asked a million times, but please cut me some slack since I am new. How much does a rebuild for the 13BTT w/ a streetport cost? Any suggestions on where to get one from, I live in Tampa Florida! All replies are appreciated.

To answer your question, you've really got to open up the engine and see what's ok to reuse and what's to be replaced. If one of your apex seals chipped you probably trashed a housing, rotor, and maybe your turbos, etc. If your motor is just tired (no broken seals) you may be able to use most of your hard parts. If you overheated the engine you may have warped some of the hard parts beyond what *ought* to be used for a rebuild. See this post:

Engine building parts selection guide

So you'd have to figure out which parts you need to replace ("durable" and "consumable") and then pay someone for labor and shipping. You'll probably spend anywhere from $1500-$6000 for a rebuild. Streetports seem to be at least an extra $200. Lots of variables...

When you blow seals. Eg: Coolant seal causing lots of thick white smoke out of the exhaust.

You don't have to just blow seals to "need" a rebuild. The engine may be getting tired as I said in the sense that compression is slowing going away as more and more of the seals (esp. apex) are losing material (same goes for the housings and irons). Maybe your oil pressure is creeping lower because your bearings are also wearing thin. etc. etc. In either case you better rebuild sooner rather than later (as opposed to "blowing" a seal which is sudden).

Why do you think your engine is bad? Get a compression test.
