13b=Normally aspirated rotary engine with 1300cc displacement

13b-RE= Twin turbo engine from Cosmo in Japan with 1300cc displacement

13b-REW= Twin turbo engine with 1300cc displacement from the FD3S in the US and Japan.

The 13b means, 1.3 liters with the "b" ports (more like a second generation from the 10a,12a, etc.)

The RE means Rotary and the W means Wankel.

W actually means double-turbocharger. In Japanese, w rhymes with "double."

Edit: I guess I need to refresh more often.

Can any of the major parts from those engines interchange without a lot of trouble? I realize the 6 port 13b probably isn't going to be a good candidate, but what about the rest? The reason I ask is that with the shortage of engines, might it come time to start looking at what can be done to salvage other RX-7 or Cosmo engines for use in in our 3Gs?

You don't even know the engine designation for your own car?

13B = NA
13BT = Turbo II

mine says 13b like in the pic.

usually the t was thrown on to differentiate but i do not believe it's formally a 13bt.

I would like to see some proof of that since you seem to know more about my car.......

I'm not talking about the sticker on the intercooler. I'm talking about the engine designation or code.

Instead of getting offended, perhaps you should do a little research on the 13BT and educate yourself. BTW, here's the cover of a book I got from a friend...

Here's a little more proof for you...

well i really wasn't offened, just one of my un-witty retorts out or reaction.

I really never heard of it officially refered to a 13bt and i do kinda want to know.

http://www.mazda.com/history/rotary/e3-1.html

http://www.mazda.com/history/rotary/e3-2.html

I have seen 13bt used numerous times like in that search but i just believe it to be naming convention used for ease.

I think it's like what other ppl do such as -sr20de-t to signify a NA to turbo even though there was only a sr20det, sr20de. It's used b/c ppl know what i means and is easy yet there was no such engine.
