1300cc secondary blew my engine

Well, the guys at KDR found that the 1300cc injector on my front rotor stuck shut, and then BOOM! Luckily, I've only put about 3k miles on this engine, and the warranty will be picking up almost the entire bill. Skip said that they've been having a lot of trouble with the 1300's lately, so he's putting some 1200's in there for me. I would suggest this to anyone else that's thinking of getting bigger secondaries, but don't need the 1600's. Hopefully, I'll be back on the road within a week or two.

Wow, that's the first "confirmed" case I've heard with the 1300's. Why are they covering it if it was the injectors fault?

I've had mine for three years without a single problem. Keep us up to date. Any plans to send it back to RC or wherever it was made?

Humm ...my 1300cc from KDR stuck open... I sent the back to be cleaned and they said they have had a high failure rate on modified ones. Apparently its common and I still dont understand why KDR sells them . I would go with a new injector 1600 and have a resistor put on it. Its a shame shops sell you "new " injectors when they are just old 850's they sent out to be modified. I had Maryland performance flow test these infront of me before and after . The before was horrible, it spit fuel the opened up like a fire hose . No pattern at all. When they came back they looked good, but its not the point . KDR and "Skip " owe you a big apology and perhaps some money for the repairs ...they know these fail and they keep selling them . I guess if you want to "just do business " its ok, but when you have a 3rd gen you need service !!!!

**** I just bought new 1300s and sold my 1200s. I figured since they were both bored out then there was an equal chance of failure. I did it to get more fuel in there while doing all the other upgrades, ive got the 2 stock rails maxed now.

I had a stuck secondary injector and my car went into limp mode...couldn't rev passed 4.5k, unless very light throttle.

Yep, more evidence that 1300cc is pushing reliability.

I'm pretty sure that my mechanic won't even install 1300cc injectors, he'll only install 1200cc, due to reliability issues.

Nuvolari: I haven't seen any shops advertising bored out injectors as "new", unless they really were new (as in brand new 850s bored out). Also, most of can't go to 1600cc injectors because that requires an aftermarket fuel rail that eliminates emissions. Also, few of us really need injectors that big anyway.

Hmmm, I've had my 1300-cc secondaries for over a year, and 15000 miles. Rx7 Store sourced and installed mine. Hopefully, mine will be ok (crossed fingers).

RC will bore them out to 1200cc, just like they do most of the 1300cc work.

Mine came from KDR and were sold to the shop I had do my fuel system as "New" When I had to work with Skip he mentioned they were used and they send them to RC engineering to be modified.

My bad about the mention of the 1600cc, I am in single turbo state of mind . But on that note ... the stock turbos suck, save your money for a single .

if this happens to me ill sue RC **** that. They should not do it if there is a more than normal chance of failure. paying for a new motor and all and have it blow because of their injectors is unacceptable.

good question....did it, I'd love to know since I have it and ya can't tell how well it works till it doesn't.
Although that loss of an entire injector would probably cause such a lean condition that I wonder whether anything could have saved your engine....

Easier said than done!

And yes I do have the anti-det device. But like rdavidsrx7 said, the loss of an entire injector is a huge failure, and I also doubt anything could have saved it. They should be inspecting my turbos today, and I'm not sure if I'll have to pay for any repairs on those. (If there is any damage.) I'll keep posting on the progress.

No one makes a side-feed 1300cc injector for our cars. Anything larger than 850cc is either bored out or is a top-feed injector that will require an aftermarket fuel rail.

this situation somewhat scares me. I'm about to install all my components to go single.
How would you check the injectors to see that they failed?

Have them flow tested for flow and pattern.

UPDATE: Just found out from Skip that both turbos are shot. He's going to take care of the engine, but I have to pay for the turbos. I'm not sure if they are rebuildable yet, or if I'll have to get new ones. Wish me luck.
