10-8-10 then 16 psi. Is this normal?

hey guys just got my fd and I was watching the 10-8-10 on the boost guage and not long after the 10 it spiked to 16 psi. I shifted to forth as fast as I could because I really don't need to break anything. I am putting the car in storage for winter and have not wired the computer up since I will do it in the spring. I am wondering if I hurt the engine by running it w/out the computer. Thanks for any answers or tips. Mods are in sig. Guy took out the comp. before he let anyone test drive it.

normal? no. Sounds like boost creep, but your mod list doesn't lend itself to creep (unless that's a damn good intercooler, or by "exhaust" you mean midpipe).
Did you hurt it? well, if it still drives, there's a good chance you didn't. If you continue to run at 16 psi, you eventually will.

Fix it up in the spring - you should be ok. just make sure you get enough fuel to that puppy.

Thanks for replying. It has PF catback and a DP but I don't know who that is by. Main cat is stock. Intercooler is by PF also. Also has an intake on it like none I have seen on the forum (probably is PF also). Real nice set up. I have heard of boost creep and I thought it was a slow progression 10-11-12 and so on, but this was a sudden spike to 16psi. Here I am planning on doing reliabilty mods next year and I try to blow it up a month after getting it. Thanks again for the info.

Most likely you didn't hurt the engine, because it still works. However, if you keep on running like that it will eventually blow on you.

Why did the guy take out the computer before anyone test drove it? That's definitely weird.

Thumbs up

AS long as your engine is not seeing 16psi for more than a few seconds you should be alright....You are having creep which will eventually lead to a blown apex seal if you don't set up your ECU properly to control it. Some kind of boost control unit should also be taken into consideration. Again if you like your motor don't go around driving it to see how many times it will last spiking to 16 psi w/out proper fuel upgrades and computer settings! Stock injectors cycle full around 14 psi w/ 93 octane.....P.S. It would be a wise idea to mix a little higher octane in with your 93 pump gas if you plan on running your car again...Just a little added insurance..G.

Last week I installed My downpipe and Midpipe in addition to my Greddy. My Apexi PFC hasnt arrived yet from the Group Buy so I drove it to see how it would do(keeping my eyes on the boost gauge) I saw 10 to 11 psi until the second turbo comes on and it slams to 15 psi. Thats when I let off. It was just a split second but I havnt done it since. You cant push your luck without the ECU upgrade. I just hate letting my car sit until I get it. Just stay out of the gas above 4k rpms and you should be ok for now. Next week I should be getting my M2 intake and hopefully my PFC. I need to get a lead on some maps for my mods. Intercooler will also be an addition soon.

Just be careful, especially with that DP, MP combo. I have the same mods, DP, MP, GReddy CB.....and I had creep anywhere from 14-18psi depending on the temperature outside. I have an M2 ECU and it couldn't control it, my wastegate was just too overwhelmed.

So, Zoom Zoom, even when you get the PFC it might not eliminate the problem, be prepared to either port your wastegate(a big hassle) or buy a restrictor plate(what I did, $45) to fix the creep!
