• Hot Start Problem. Any advice is appriciated. •

(also posted in general tech)

My fd doesn't like to start up once the car is hot. The car will start fine when is cold, but after there is heat in the motor, and i try to start it, it will crank over trying to start but will not fire over until the car is running at about 160 degrees.

There is fuel pressure when we try to start the car after its hot.

We've replaced:
  • Fuel Pressure Reg.
  • Air Control Valve
  • Air Pump
  • Starter Solonoid
  • Starter

Any advice is good advice at this point.

Thanks guy.

Did you do a compression test? usually lower compression engines are harder to start when fully hot.

Check your ignition coils, check to see if spark is present during hot condition. Sounds like an electrical problem, any error codes?

You replaced the FPR or the Pressure Regular solenoid?

Ignition coils should be fine. And we are not getting any error codes.

The FRP was replaced. the solenoid was replaced as well.

We just ran a compression check this morning, and at sitting cold temperatures, we are reading only around 75 - 80 in both cylinders, which i realize is low. However if the car had a compression problem, then wouldn't it not start up at all with those numbers?

I do believe 75psi is the minimum spec for our vehicles, that being said, i'd attribute your hot starting issues to low compression.

One thing you can do to get by is put a switch on the fuel pump circuit. Keep the switch off until you start cranking it then flip it on. Hot engines don't like as much fuel. I've never used this method before but heard it works. But its just a bandaid until you get it rebuilt.

It would probably be a good idea to include some facts about your car.

Stock?
Engine ported?
Stock ECU, or PFC?
Tuned recently?

etc.

Although we were told that the solenoid was replaced. Everything seems to have us going back to it so we're going to replace it and see how that works out.

I have such a switch. When you shut the car off, do it by killing the pump and wait until the motor dies before you turn off the ignition. Works for me. No hot start issues.
