exhaust fix..

well its not really a fix, my exhaust is really dis coloring bad! it is like brown and I really want to restore it back to the shiny chrome finish it was when I bought it. I tried using solvent but that didn't work and I tried searching but couldn't find any product that would restore it. Also how do I fix it so It would discolor in the future?

First, a good cleaning is in order. Use a hand-applied polish to see how that does. For serious discoloration, you have to buff the discoloration out - I've used a cloth buffing wheel on a cordless drill with polishing rouge and it works really well.

It's best if you take the exhaust off the car to work with it. You could easily screw up the black plastic trim under the bumper if you try to buff it on the car.

Not a lot you can do to prevent it from happening in the future - the heat will discolor the metal. Every now and again you'll have to repolish it to keep it looking new.

Funny you say this because I was just looking into cleaning my hks as well. The one thing I did figure out is that an industrial grade cleaner would work the best and that the discoloring will eventually come back. This was after I waxed my car and the exhaust was throwing off the look.
