What's this?

At a C&C this morning a guy brought his really pristine '94 R2 with 27K miles. Checking it out under the hood, this box on the driver-side fender immediately caught my eye. Don't have this on my '93. I'm sure you experts know what it is!

Don't have to be an expert to know what a factory part in the stock location is. If your car doesn't have it, its either been relocated or you have non factory ignition coils

its the ignitor for the ignition coils, it takes the ECU signal, and fires the coil.

Thanks guys. I should have taken a look under my hood before declaring I didn't have this part. Difference is mine is obscured by a bracket with another connection, etc. where his is hanging there naked for all the world to see. Plus his is spotlessly clean, unlike mine. Guess there was some sort of running change on the 94's.....

Looking more closely at his car, I see the holes where the bracket was attached so I guess at some point this was modified on his car.

The igniter has a slightly different appearance in the early cars.

My 94 is also obscured by the cruise control box.

Well if this guy's FD is a 94 R2, as stated in the 1st post, I don't think it came with cruise control from the factory. IIRC, all of the 93-95 US market R1/R2 models had the cruise deleted from the factory. Thus the cruise unit & bracket were never removed
