Trying to take apart my new-to-me belt buckles to fix the broken drivers side belt sensor and do some cleaning of the mechanism. Does anyone know what hardware this is? The points look too fat and round to be e-torx or spline and I cant find any other common hardware styles like it. Would like to figure it out before I just start buying random bit sets.
Did a lot of digging and managed to find the answer to my question. The Autofriend Model A1490 is a generic buckle shell used on many JDMs and because of that, I was able to find the answer on a miata forum here. The security hardware is something called Gamebit and is predominately used by Nintendo. Specifically these are the 4.5mm variant. I ordered
screwdriver and was easily able to take everything apart.
As for the buckle sensor in the receiver, It is the grey box seen below and is just a simple 2 wire sensor. While I had it all apart I took the opportunity to grease everything and the release button is nice and smooth now.
Kudos for figuring it out and sharing, just in case we need to find it in the future.
Crazy that a seat belt buckle uses a fastener primarily utilized by Nintendo. I knew that I'd seen that head somewhere before, but I'd never have racked my brain hard enough to recall it was the ol' Gamebit security screws I dealt with on cartridges.

To be honest I didn't believe it when I read it, but since the driver was only $5 I took the gamble. I also don't want to be the "solves his own problem but doesn't post the solution" guy famous on any support forum lol. I'm also used to having incredibly specific issues whose solution will probably only benefit very small group of people.
