I am getting my RX4 back on the road, and the previous owner wired the seat belt regulator to the cigarette lighter. I have since knocked loose the hot wire, and now I can't use the seat belt.

Any ideas? I tried to rewire it, but sh*t started smoking/sparking.

 

Never heard of a seat belt regulator.
Do you mean the thing that locks up the seat belt when you stop really fast or turn fast?

 

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I have to admit I don't use proper car terminology very often. I am a true newbie. . .

Are you sure the wire is not for the seat belt warning light?

 

god i want a rx3 or rx4 as a project they are so beautiful kinda hard to find though

The wire is for the lite and nothing to do with the tenstioner lock there are two things that make the seat belt lock one is a quick pull that will spin the dogs out or the force wight that moves agenst the lock when the car starts ti desell to fast like when running into something, rest and or dirt does them in, DON"T try to fix just replace it
