Wow. And we all thought the rats nest was a bitch to work on. Im not even going to imagine what it will be like with an e-turbo, some capacitrs, a hybrid system, and god knows what else.

MX-5 Coupe?
There are rumors that Mazda might unveil a hardtop version of the MX-5 at the New York Auto Show next week. Do you guys think that this is a good stopgap measure until the rotary sports car arrives?
Let's assume it has some kind of 2.0L SkyActiv Turbo engine at 300hp and a 6-speed manual.

Mazda is on a freaking roll! I can't believe Mazda did this. A 232hp Renesis would suit this thing nicely. This is easily the most manley looking Miata to date.

Its beautiful, but the position of the LCD screens bugs me to death. It just seams like such an after thought.
"Hey guys. We forget to make a hole for the lcd screen."
"NP. Lets just screw it to the top of the dash."

Edit: Anyone notice the similar lines of rear quater window when compared to the Vision?

YEP but as it is the entire car is an after thought of a car built a time long ago. Is it better than the original miata built 26 years ago. Yep, congrats on making a slightly better miata.
Hard top and rotary making 250hp and this car might actually sell. I still haven't seen one in person because no one is buying it.
I'm betting they sell less than 12k miatas this year. Meanwhile mustangs (for the record the current mustang is twice the car of the 90s mustang and that's how you sell cars) and camaros will fly off the shelf.

I've seen quite a few here, I actually saw someone from MI came over to pick one up the day it came out, not the RF but the regular ND.
I'm digging that ND RF tho, wish I live down south where I can have a Miata as DD.

Lets just say the RX8 sold a lot more cars when it 1st came out than this ND miata but this is more about building a car people want.
I think sports car fans want a light weight 9 or even 10 to 1 car that's affordable.
Again Mazda could have easily done this but they blew it
Next up they'll probably build a 70k GT car and loose some more money. They could drop any decent engine making 250 plus HP into this chassis, put a hard top on it, beef up susp and brakes and it would sell but as it is I'll go buy a used miata, s2k etc.....

Mazda is selling tons of MX-5s in the UK and Europe right now. It's just not a car that excites Americans whom have access to so much horsepower for so little money and such straight boring roads. In the UK every road, even the motorways are very curvy (and even the little roads have much higher speed limits than 35 mph, more like 60-70) and the MX-5 fits the bill perfectly for a lot of people.
I actually don't enjoy driving my RX-7 on a lot of the roads here because it's just too powerful for the tight bends and narrow 1.5 lane roads (yes, lots of the time if a car is coming the other way you need to pull over and let it pass and vice versa). Which is why I take it to the track all the time so I can actually exploit it.
Smaller and lower powered cars like the ND are where it's at for driver enjoyment over here. A little Fiesta ST is also really fun on the road but on the track both are kind of lacking.
Whereas in the US, you can drive on the motorway for 70 miles and barely steer. Same with the grid-like streets so no wonder you see tons of videos of highway drag races with 1000 hp cars, because you have the room.
Anyway, the ND might not be the most powerful car and could use a couple of mods to tighten the suspension and maybe add another 30-40 bhp to about 200, but otherwise it's a great package for a lot of people, at least out here in Europe. And the new RF hard top is sexy as hell.

I need to buy a SUV for the growing family (bear with me).
I really like the Honda Pilot, I think it is a great overall package albeit a bit pricey.
In my opinion an SUV has to be able to tow and have AWD system, and the Pilot does that.
But then, Mazda comes out with the smart and gorgeous new Miata. And this concept "future RX7" thing.
And I feel like buying Mazda's all new SUV just to support this company and "fund" the future RX7
