Serious comment though - the hood line is REALLY long to have a short rotary in there. Looks like it would have an I6 or V12 under the hood given the length. Not sure I like the styling knowing the engine underneath is so short. It certainly doesnt bleed sex and beauty like the FD did to me the first time I saw it.

I like it, I like how they kept the FD cluster orientation and just gave it a little updated look.

I don't know why Mazda doesn't learn from their past failures and racing experience and get away from the side port 2 rotor... They really need to do an N/A 3 or 4 rotor with at least 400hp or a 2 rotor turbo again. The Renesis was a complete failure for the tuner market and most cars in stock form couldn't make it to 100k miles on the original motor.

Reliability wise, isn't the S2 Renesis much better than the S1? We could have the old peripheral exhaust return provided Mazda altered the combustion chamber to be more efficient and less polluting. Mazda needs to hurry up and show us an engine. I have a feeling there's gonna be some untraditional changes that we aftermarket people may have a hard time adjusting too.

It looks amazing.. Except for the snout IMO.. and I hope they make it a little bit more curvy once they stray away from the concept-ness

Not at all in my experiences. I see a lot more 2nd and third gens rx7s get higher mileage on the original motors than rx8s. I probably get 20-30 RX8s in my shop for motors per year. They all seam to fail between 75-100k miles, sometimes as early as 50k. Every once in a while I see a car with 120-130k on the original motor and is still running. The majority of them are not cost effective to rebuild because the rotor housings almost always have severe chrome flaking. They run too hot and don't inject enough oil. And because of the restrictive exhaust ports and their physical location, the side seals take a beating and lose compression over time. The Series II motors are somewhat better and seem to last longer. Most RX-7 motors fail from broken apex seals caused by detonation, and that is almost always a result of a poor tune or failure of a fuel system, component. I hardly every get RX8 motors in that have detonation damage. Its almost all low compression from worn side seals and rotor housings. I understand that Mazda went away from the peripheral exhaust ports to reduce overlap and therefore reduce emissions, but it just doesn't seem to work well in a performance application. There's got to be a better way to do it. That being said, the concept car looks great, it just needs a real powertrain. I'm not interested in paying 50 grand plus for a car that will get beaten by a mustang costing half as much. The tuner market could be promising, but again any forced induction attempt just won't last because of the side exhaust ports. How many rx8s are running around with 400 hp or even 300hp and last more than 20k miles? Not very many unfortunately.
