Thumbs up thoughts from a ford probe owner

I just got what I consider my first real car. It's a white Turbo II with 30k miles on a rebuilt motor. I don't know much about these cars yet, except for the fact that they drive better than my 86 300zx. With forums like this around, I'm sure to learn more.

Well here's the info on the probe story. I've got a friend with a 93 probe. he's spent way too much money making the car reasonably quick (instead of buying something that was quick to begin with). When I bought my car, I just had to let him drive it and show him what he was missing. As he was driving around the block, he said "There isn't much power is there?" He was in third and 2200rpm. So I said "Drop a gear, and try again." Boost went up, we went back, car went forward, and two grins mysteriously appeared on the inside of the car. One of the grins managed to let out a "Holy ****, this is stock?" before returning to all teeth and smiles.

I'm pretty happy with the car, and from the little reading i've done, there's more isn't there? So much more... I'll be looking for suggestions on things to do to my car to make it faster and handle better, but i can certainly appreciate the stock condition.

Are there any suggestions any of you may have to get rid of the "Hard to start when it's warm problem"? I've installed a switch to the fuel pump and use that to turn off the car. Upon starting the car, i crank the engine for about 2 seconds then hit the switch again, yet i still have trouble starting it.

Ok, well I'm done.

Welcome!

Man, you can learn SOOOO much, just one of the 1st things yur gunna wanna do...is go down to your local auto parts store and grab a Hayanes manual....TOTALLY kick ***, this is what i gather from my experience.....your hard to start when warm problem is from a....well these are the little problems, air filter clogged, ignition timing, get the compression checked, vaccum leak, check those. And, get that manual, you could put the car in boxes and together with it again happy driving!

Does it flood? Describe hard to start a lil more, it could just be a case of bad injectors (you could get em cleaned for pretty cheap, and fix it!)

My injectors leak....I use the fuel pump switch to kill the engine and then I leave it off and start the car with the switch in the off position. Fires right up. I had my injectors cleaned and I still have the problem.

I can drive the car for 30 minutes and have it completely warmed up. When I shut down the car for 3 minutes or so (like when I buy gas) it will not start up without about 45seconds of cranking. I've occasionally had to get out and pull the EGI fuse and crank with the gas pedal floored then put the EGI fuse back in. So on thursday, i installed the switch and my problems haven't changed. My compression was reported to be 109 (whatever that means). I don't know if that is within "OK" operating parameters or not.

Typically, how effective is getting the fuel injectors cleaned (I'm not talking about that STP fuel injector treatment stuff either) I mean pulling them out and physically cleaning them. Is removing them something you'd advise to a newbie?

Try this next time it floods

Try this. Do everything you normally do when it floods and you have to pull the fuse. instead of flooring it..dont...crank for just 20 seconds...then do everything else u normally do after you crank for 20 seconds. I have seen on here where people say to floor it when doing the unflooding prcedure. I dont floor it and mine cranks everytime. I am not flaming or anthing..just wondering.
