That you were right about I was comparing about displacement? No you were wrong. You failed to see the comparison of the 2 threads in relation what was being talked about.

At first you were stating the fd can make more power per given dollars, which is obvious but also forgot about the fact its FI.

Then all of a sudden when i mention the vette made 600hp from a 6.2 v8 you're saying well GM put a supercharger on it..

If I had to for some horrific reason give up my FD, the only other car I want is a ferrari 599 GTO....... but since that'll never happen id get another FD, their's just no replacement for the car.

 

I would be curious to start a thread to inquire which car people sold their FD for.

 

I gave up my FD for a Porsche 993 and haven't looked back. Sure, it's not as fast, but I've spent the past couple of years modding the suspension ( Moton Motorsports) and the nut behind the wheel and it does just fine at the track. Also, I think it's one of the best looking P-cars, IMO of course. I'd really like to replace it with a 993 Cup car.

I may have to hang onto this Cayman but it's already down with PS fluid issues and I bet the bill is 1k just to fix the PS lines. Wouldn't cost a thing if it was the FD.

I feel like those would be the only cars that could offer the type of fun an FD might. Of course you will have people that go totally different and they probably went Supra.

 

How is the Supra a totally different route? while it looks huge compared to the FD (and most vehicles do) it handles quite well. And regardless of personal feelings toward them an honest enthusiast must admit that they have decent out of the box (2jz no ****!) and are nearly bullet proof compared to most motors.

 

Great car but it isn't nimble like an FD and the car feels huge.

TPC in Maryland has just the thing to fix that pesky PS issue. A couple buddies had it done and it's been rock solid since. That said, yea it's probably a grand. It is P-Car money after all.

While people wish that road and track article would die in hell, when they tested the FD, MKIV, 300zx and the 3000gt vr4, the supra and FD had EXACTLY identical numbers with actually slightly higher numbers for some tests for the supra, but the difference was marginal.

While the car is bigger obviously, and heavier obviously, it can still be competitive with the FD both in stock and in modified form. The stock comparison numbers dont lie.

So while it can do well on the track, its an amazing straight line performer, has a backseat, and can be used every single day as a daily driver.

The supra tt should definitely be in the same category as the FD.

 

Have you driven a jza80 Andy? They actually handle significantly better than you would think, I would definitely not say they feel huge. I have been in 6 or 7 mkiv's and was thoroughly impressed with all of them. They look much bigger than they feel.

Haha I havent bought anything yet, waiting until I move out of NYC but it is no secret I will be moving into a viper. Or if I am living in fantasy land, like a few of these other posts, CarreraGT and my life is complete.

IMO a rx8 is a downgrade after owning a FD.

 

I haven't driven one but I've sat shotgun and I wasn't impressed with the way it felt. They certainly look bigger than they feel but that's not saying much. They certainly don't handle poorly though.

I'll be happy with a Lotus and my FDs!

Cayman's handle really well. Mid engine car (lots of rear grip) with nice susp setup that's running a FAT rear tire. Like the FD it's nimble and tossable but still doesn't have the turn in or steering feel so overall I'll take the FD seat anyday over the Cayman. Mine currently has 295 888s on it and it's pretty damn fast.

Here's another vid giving a student a rid along. Notice the road block Supra . I've never been on track EVER with a supra that showed me anything at all. I understand Leh Keen used to drive a heavily modded one that was pretty quick. The only reason the FD didn't kill the supra in every category is the tire size. The supra actually outbraked the RX7......explain that one LOL. I've said it many time but the FD dominated and I mean DOMINATED autocrosses for a good 10 years. Where was the Supra? Sorry but in my book it's not even on the same planet as the FD. With tons of $s tossed at it I'm sure it would compete but the drive and vibe is night and day.

 

Nice laps Fritz. Would love a ride the Cayman or the keys. I've instructed in them quite a bit and am always impressed. Buy some better tires without those wonky sizes and see what she'll do.

I'm seriously contemplating selling my FD and replacing it with an Exige.

 

Not yet, it's been too hot out to do anything. I should be hitting the dyno again for some more tuning. I'll get some video of that.
