Back on thread topic, which was.......
"If you had to give up your FD, what "reasonable" car would you upgrade to?"

I would purchase a 03-04 Cobra as a “close cost/reasonable” replacement.
I would take a 2013 Shelby GT500 for a double the price upgrade.

The BIG reason I purchased a RX-7 was that Ford used to own controlling interest in Mazda !

To me if you are arguing that the FD interior is similar to the C6Z, then you are saying that the FD is better because 20 years later and finally the corvette is catching up to what Mazda did long ago.

For the record I don't see much similarity, and if I had the money for that car I would still not buy it.
Never said the fd interior was bad. I said its similar to the c6. Mazda always had good interiors, in almost all it's cars.

Hell the rx8 interior is amazing, way better looking than the fd IMO. Doesn't mean I want one. So you're saying you buy cars based on interiors? Lol. All I was arguing this whole time was don't knock the c6 interior when the fd is almost identical. In terms of piece quality and part placement.

The fd yeah 20 years ago had an amazing interior. Too bad it will never catch up to the c6z in terms of looks and performance now. Its a shame. Lol

Probably a TVR Sagaris - Resembles the FD most because of it's raw, no BS , purist driver layout. The styling is just outrageous, yet refined. The fact that this car is stick only, no airbags, no abs, no Tc and just a roll bar really sells it.

Runner up, the Clk-63 Black. Used they aren't bad in price. The brute force of the 6.3 V8 combined with a real DTM chassis layout and styling is just right up my alley. Who doesn't love a car that has a diff made of lead an granite. Only downside is paddle only.

In third Bmw E46 M3 (CSL'd out) - I honestly love the way this car rides and just hugs the road, it feels like it has a vacuum underneath it. it's Dtm inspired wheel arches are truly Iconic, along with it's timeless shape.

Number Four the Bmw E30 M3 M3 as it resembles most of my favorite characteristics the FD displays, when in motion

In last but still awesome is the C63 Amg, God I love this little burnout monster. It's V8 is just brutal and it's by far the meanest sounding sedan I've ever heard. (The M5 sounds pretty but it just doesn't sound angry.) The sound the AMG V8's make is the sound made by ish that creates earthquakes.

As far as unrivaled budget, the Fd's two sisters cars. By sister I mean they share some unique parts.

Koenigsegg CCX - I'll be VERY impressed to who ever figures out what the CCX has in common with the FD. Truth be told I just love this car, everything about it is just amazing... Minus the build quality haha.

99 Dodge Viper Twin Turbo - I love those door handles

I'm not a fanboy, I consider my self an automotive puritan. I personally don't like many cars especially newer models. I think alot of cars today really reflect the manufacturers desire to cater to the masses over what really makes a true spirited automobile. I say this to all my friends, You know the difference between a good car and a great car is that a good car will keep you in the family and make you want to step up to the newer model, the greats stay in your garage as weekend warriors.

People who have a 996 want a 997... People who have Fd's don't want Rx8's or a newer Rx7 concept (As cool as it may be, I just don't get tired of the FD).

And a C6Z can destroy the competition on the track and people here are nitpicking about the interior?? LOL

We're not talking about the dodge challenger here, the vette has always been more about the drive rather than just straight line speed.

[/b]One of the reasons I like the Z06 is because it feels a lot like my RX-7, but reliable and good gas mileage.[/b]

Exactly.

The Z is basically a modern, more reliable steroid up FD. With modern more exotic looks.

Its a race car for the street. Just because it can accelerate like a nutcase in a straight line, people think it cant handle??

Shall i pull up those ring records again? lol

With the funny comments in this thread, i think supernaut is wrong when he said this site doesnt have rabid fanboys.

The FD is a mean machine, easy and cheap to make fast and can compete with the best, more expensive out there.

But to discredit a car than can do all that, PLUS MORE, STOCK, take it into consideration, its a different animal. It isnt always about best bang for buck. Using that into the discussion is a cheap shot move.

Corvettes feel more like a nice & stiff touring sedan versus the feel the FD gives you (which is definitely sportscar).

And there's more to handling than just skidpad numbers. Neutrality, balance, nimbleness, feel are much more telling, however subjective those traits are, than just a constant 360 degree left or right turn. What say the dudes who've tracked Z06s/Porsches/FDs?

What we've already said but most everyone who likes a corvette has selective reading skills

The price difference in doing 20b is HUGE. Doing an LSx swap costs about as much as it costs to do a single turbo swap.

Doing the labor in both scenarios and the ls swap is more. Considering sourcing a good ls/t56 setup. Meaning lower mileage etc.

Its not much more cost wise but it is more and actual work involved is alot more.

Do you have a 20b FD? I'm not trying to be an ***, but you're completely wrong.

A 20b subframe is half the cost of what Hinson charges for their "Complete FD Conversion Package."

20b Subframe: $2000
Hinson: $3,893.26

See where I'm going here.

Anyway, back on topic. I've been looking at MKIV Supras lately. 3 of my buddies have them. I've owned a few BMW's and I think I'll always be a Japanese car fan. Toyota makes great cars.

How many ls/t56 setups are available in the US? Ok, now how many 20B's?

Cant you just like, call up Chevrolet and order a turn key ls engine complete with ECU? Yea, cant do that with Mazda.

It is definitely MUCH more money to do a 20B swap. Otherwise there would be MANY more 20B cars around.

Yea Rob that is 100% not true man. The v8 swap is actually incredibly easy these days. The newest kits offer alot of improvements over the older versions and in the end, you get a tranny that can hold alot of power and keep close to 50/50. You can't do that on a FI 20b without doing alot more work.

I'm using Samberg on my 2nd FD and I must say, Justin has been awesome with support. That guy has the swap down to a science.

The FD is my weekend money pit car...

If I got rid of it, the only other car I think I'd be happy with is a 240-280Z like my brother's with either an RB25 or 2JZ.

My brother's got a '78 280Z with a 400+hp RB25 motor in it.

I might just buy it off him one of these days...

I guess we are still talking about this?? Only car I would consider selling to replace my FDs will be GTR... But even then, I wouldnt sell the FDs. In my perspective of enthusiast, there is no better chassis out there. I change the look of my MB every 2 years and its like having a new car at fraction of the cost. Its still rare, fun to drive, and turns heads. Why would I sell it to buy something that's going to depreciate and start my learning curve over again.. I don't have time for that! I would buy a GTR to replace my daily... My wife gave me a thumbs up when GTR hits 40s (another year or two?).

Old fart!

lol j/k :P

I would rock a GT-R for a daily-driver too, if I had the money.

At the same time though, my "daily-driver" needs to be able to fit my future family...And admittedly, I prefer the MPG's of my Sonata. lol

...Can you even put child seats into the back of a GT-R? LOL!

Consider me one-upped.

lol

Looks great. Have to go with RB25 transmission on the 26, right?

Is it running yet or still in progress?

I've got a coworker looking at GTRs, prices have risen and it's hard to touch them under mid 60s. I don't see them hitting 40s for a long time unless our economy implodes again.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm waiting for the GTRs to hit the high 40's - low 50's before I jump on one.

Given that they are so technology based, I 'd be afraid to own one with a little bit of age behind it. Meaning it would cost a bundle to keep one in tip top shape. Granted my statement doesn't have any merit and I'm just basically thinking out loud.
