I just find it funny fd owners have the nerve to discredit a car because of a cheap interior when our interiors are cheap. And worse lol
But in a way I understand they have to say cheap interior because if they didn't brainwash themselves with that, we'll all be driving c6z's lol

You didn't understand what I said. I said the cost of the fd back then almost equates to what a z06 costs in today's money. The fd first arrived here 20 years ago. Almost 40 grand for a car in 1992 was alot.
Of course you can get more bang for buck for an fd now, the car is dirt cheap now. The platform is good. But were not talking about best bang for buck. Cause if that's the case, an ls1 miata would be a better choice.
I never said people have to agree with me but I have seen some poor mindset posting in my years on this forum and I guess its starting to get to me lol. Hence my brainwashing comment.
If the c6z was 20-25k NOW, you can be sure ALOT of people would be leaving the fd for that. Its more car.
Only thing that holds them back is cost and/or being a real rx7/rotary enthusiast.

Fact is, the car is old. if your lucky enough to have access to unlimited tools and equipment and have the knowledge to bring it back to pristine Condition, I envy you. But not many people are lucky like that. So you have a bunch of half assed fd's running around.
as the years went by I realized it will take a ton of money for me to reach my goal. I want an all around pristine fd so to speak. Phil's fd for example. His fd is perfect in every way. Both performance and looks.
To get my fd to look like that, maybe not so much with the cosmetics would cost me 20k.
Then I still have to worry about the ticking timebomb. Which will be another 5-6k if and when it goes off.
So when you add all that up including the price of the car, I now have a 45-50k fd. And its a 93 vr. Lol not even a rare fd.
For 45k gets you an 07 c6z, 505hp, aggressive exotic looks, 7.0 liter v8 of pure fury, reliability. Torque out the wazoo, and modern more comfortable ride. This is a sports car too were talking about here.
Guy on the gto forum sold his gto for an 07 z. Bone stock and took down a GTR on the highway. Ran 11.6 stock while car still being new to him. Its a performer.
The subject is about what would replace the fd, this is obviously what i would choose.

The layout/design of the Vette's interior still looks like it should belong in one of Chevy's crappy sedan products rather than a $50K to $100K sportscar.
FD's interior design cannot be mistaken with one of a sedan (produced then, or even now); subpar materials quality notwithstanding.

I dont know about you but the layout is almost identical. Of course the Z being more modern, so that means its nicer looking.

Hey I really like z06 corvettes. They are bad *****. And I'm the farthest thing from being a meathead Generally speaking, I could care less what people think when I'm seen driving. I also don't understand why everyone complains about the interiors, they are pretty nice IMO when you sit/drive in them. Sometimes I wonder how much of the bitching is internet/magazine regurgitation or personal experience

No one paid $40K for an FD. Not in '92, nor in 95. You can't use that argument to try and justify the Vette's boxy, Malibu-like design in a car it has no business being in.
Second, try superimposing the Vette's upright/non-sportscar dash into an FD, Gallardo, Carrera GT. Looks stupid? yeah. Now put it into a Camaro/Lumina/Malibu and whatever else POS sedan chevy churns out. More at home? Absolutely.

IMO like everything else about both the C5 and the C6 it's just too BIG!!!! With the c6 I also get the impression that too many people designed it in other words there's no cohesion front to back. The front fenders just don't connect to the rear, rear bumper to the front etc.... I think the c5 is a better looking car and will probably stand the test of time. The c6 z has the wider *** that matches the front fenders somewhat but it's still not quite right for some reason.
The FD can also look a little weird to me at times but the majority of the time from any angle it's still one of the coolest cars ever made.
When the c6 is 20 years old will I even care to look at it, I doubt it.
There just seems to be a BIG thing going on even the 997 and the of course the GTR are TOO DAMN BIG. The fenders seem too tall and the wheel wells too big. Maybe car designers start with those crazy *** 19 inch wheels first and build the car around the wheels.

They're both cheap looking but the layout is the same.
look at the shifter position. Similar although IMO vette shifter is better placed.
Gauge hood. Similar.
Pedals in relation to each other. Similar.
Center dash. Not the same but same idea.
A-pillars. Similar.
Passenger area/dash. Similar.
To say it's totally off and you need your eyes checked lol. Any person, NOT vette/rx7 biased will tell you they're similar.
To ask a vette or an rx7 enthusiast and you're gonna get nitpicking because they wanna defend their car. Just like in this thread.

I like to drive a prepped/Modded C6 Z06, but honestly I've driven my Dad's C6, and it <still> felt like every other Camaro/Corvette/Mustang etc., big *** American "sportscar".
I also realize the <materials> used in an FD interior are cheap, but the look and the ergonomics are better than the Vette, which again seems like a big American car... and I HATE the push-button doors. Give me a break. And the shift **** is like a children's bowling ball. It's the kind of car you WANT to like, because of the "numbers", but it's just not that nice in reality. Nothing against it, but I remember the first time I drove a friends FD, I literally HAD to have one and I could barely afford it at the time. I could have a Vette easily now and I don't.
Not so the GT3... granted I only drove Fritz's modded one briefly, but it has "the feel" you want. But I (and I think Fritz) just wasn't convinced it was tens of thousands of dollars worth of better. What you'd really get for that money would be cache.

I think you're blinded by the Vette light and I'm sure you think I'm infatuated w/ the FD and can't see the light but in either case saying the corvette is small on the inside would go against most car reviewers thoughts. The c6 interior has come a long way with softer lines and curves but it's still TOO DAMN BIG. I'll agree the layout is similar but so is the layout of most sports cars. Corvette just has a problem with making things too wide and too tall but the reason I feel that way is because I'm too small The FD fits me like a glove and so does the cayman.

I've never driven a c6 so I can't comment on the pedals but I've ridden in several while instructing students on a race track and I'm impressed with how the cars feel and I'm very impressed with how fast they are but speed is only important if that's all you are measuring and all I'm measuring is driver enjoyment because that's why I drive. Yes the c6 and c5s are fun and fast but not as FUN as P cars, Lotus's or FDs and barely faster than FDs or GT3s.
Hopefully you'll have the opportunity to drive a car at speed (will never happen on the street) and you'll learn to appreciate the handling dynamics of a car as much as the raw power.

My GT3 needed 20k in susp mods to really get the most out of it (My track FD is more fun to drive but with susp bits I think the GT3 would be SOO FUN), it also cost 2k in tax and 1500 in ins each year which was really a serious waste of money for a car that sat in the garage. I originally was looking for a 996 GT3 but couldn't find the right car and I'm currently looking for a 996 GT3 with all the right mods but that's not easy to find so I may just end up with another 997 at some point but as usual I'm all over the map and I may keep the cayman and have a 3.8 put in it etc.....
In the interim I'll enjoy my FD which is simply a dream car on track
Pete, Brent and I will hopefully be on track with a bunch of P cars, C6 Zs etc..... in May and we'll post up some videos to prove how the FD is still a relevant car against today's 100k autos with all the gadgets, HUGE tires, HUGE brakes, HUGE power and yet our little FDs leave them scratching their collective heads

I'm saying the cayman dash is LIKE the FD dash and the GM dash is well like a GM dash it's not similar to the small fighter pilot type fit of the FD and I could care less if the AC vent is in the same place. If you think you can get a grip on pedal location from a small picture like that then think again The FD does have excellent pedal location though.

My gto pedal spacing. WAY different than both cars. And clutch is MUCH softer.

BTW, I have driven many different types of vehicles, definitely over 30 different manual vehicles. I know there is a difference in ergonomics.
To me if you are arguing that the FD interior is similar to the C6Z, then you are saying that the FD is better because 20 years later and finally the corvette is catching up to what Mazda did long ago.
For the record I don't see much similarity, and if I had the money for that car I would still not buy it.

One of the reasons I like the Z06 is because it feels a lot like my RX-7, but reliable and good gas mileage.
