He bought it in 2015 and as owned since so no need for carfax unless he wrecked it and is dishonest.

I'm guessing checking the apex seals is a compression test.

I feel like guessing the pricing is a crap shoot. That said, I will be very interested to see if this trades higher than we are thinking. We have seen extremely low mile stock touring cars sell for $50,000. Can a "relatively" low mile touring sell for $35-40,000?

 

Yep it's definitely a crap shoot or in other words I think this car could easily sell for 40 or 30

That said I'd be a buyer at 30k (if it's super clean, good compression etc..) if I didn't have an FD and wanted a VR 94 touring with glass sunroof (likely my favorite overall touring FD) so I think your guessing range is likely more in line with what it will sell for.

 

Yeah. I think we're still learning what's what in this market. I'm not at all sure of much anymore except that "nice" Rx7's, including 1st gens as well as 3rd gens, are becoming pretty expensive.

 

Since I am at work, I only glanced at the pictures within the description (the nice ones lol) and not at the ones in the photo gallery. Hence my comment about the engine bay being a marker of how the car has been taken cared off.

Given your comment of the dent and faded paint I went back, took a second look and damn... WTF that car is beat and I'm actually blown away that it sold for that much.

 

This thread has truly made me think I have the most jank FD RX7 on this entire board! My engine bay has plenty of little paint chips and my tan interior is REALLY rough. Then again my car was a $7,800 (probably double that now) automatic with a completely rusted engine that was destined to be parted or LS swapped had I not stepped in. Looking at some of these cars that have shown up on BAT & eBay recently I can't help but think what great shape they are in. Then I come back to this thread lol

I was watching "ballers" last night on HBO and they were driving around in a cool 60s jaquar sedan and one the characters said "driving that is like ******* the queen of england, a rough ride but lots of prestige" that's basically the best way to describe driving any classic car LOL The older that queen is the rougher the ride and god forbid if the queen isn't well preserved LOL.

Bottomline: many of those BAT cars are soooo overpriced esp considering it's an AUCTION WITH A 5 PERCENT FEE. DAMN! Clearly most of the BAT buyers have more money than time.

 

Relatively these cars are still cheap. A couple grand here and there to get the right car is peanuts.

For around $30k you can have a decently optioned midsize econobox or a pretty bitchin' FD. The kids can walk.

 

^ I've been saying what a good buy these are compared to slightly used or new cars for some time. Seriously, an FD with less than 20,000 miles that's been well cared for is basically new and what would you rather have?

I'll buy a 80k GT3 with similar mileage. Get 3 times the car for twice the price LOL

Seriously as much as I love this car I'm not buying a stock FD for anything over 35k and even then it would have to mint and the exact one I want. Bottomline: I'm likely not getting a nice one for awhile unless the market reverses some. Better cars for just a bit more or decent new cars for the same or less.

When you could get a nice FD for 25k they were deals. 40k plus is too much IMO.

 

No doubt I'll take the bitchin FD for 30k, hell I have two now along with a bone stock FD

I think it's becoming more about panache, style, and taste and less about the sabremetrics of auto ownership. I don't care if the WHIP or ERA are shaky. I want an FD on the mound.

 

...and I believe this year to be quite the exception, with tax relief and new found cash in peeps pockets. I think next year things will level off. I know that some (Fritz) feel that BAT is overly inflated, but the market IS the market. They just seem to be doing it better than most right now and have a ton of traffic driving up valuations. They are the current RISING tide that offsets those of us who pine for low-ball prices now and forever. It's nice to have your "Jap Crap" finally appreciated for the pinnacle in design and performance that Mazda captured in the early '90. Truly "Lightning in a World of Thunder."

 

 

The discussion waffles. Its been said and said clearly. We have always known what a great car the FD is whether you think a GT3 is a better car or this or that car is a better car. The FD is special. Beautiful. And it still performs well. Kind of like a Lotus Elan will always be great fun to drive. The FD has been "recognized" and prices will rise to whatever the "right" level is. We don't have any control over what's happening. We just happen to be people who have been lucky enough to have owned and driven them and admired them for years and when they were extremely cheap. We've all been so lucky to have owned these. Now, collectors and people who are much younger and have fallen in love with them will get their chance to enjoy these. Fritz will keep one and go on to another GT3 maybe. Most here will keep theirs. But these are no longer what they were for us all these years.

If I can afford it I'll continue to own a GT3. As long as I can still drive it, I'll always have at least 1 FD

Currently I have the perfect mix for me:

Race car FD
lightweight fun FD for street
heavyweight fun FD (AC etc..) for DD
Bone stock low mileage FD for collecting (will eventually sell)
track/street GT3

I seriously don't want any other sports cars besides GT3s or FDs LOL

One thing to remember is that NONE of the cars from that era will be as good as a GT3. The FD is woefully underpriced in comparison despite being on par if not better than the NSX/Supra to drive. They're still rare and they're still cheap IMO. As supply starts to change hands eventually we will hit a point where there won't be any good, cheap stock cars left. The same thing that happened in 2011 on with old Berlinettas, Jalpas, etc is going to hit the FD too.

I assume you're talking 996 GT3 at that price point? Is it really that fantastic? I've had my eye on them or a 996 turbo as I think they'd be a decent place to park money for the next couple years. With only 1000 GT3s in the states it's a pretty easy bet.

 

Not even a Fifth Gen Viper? To me it is the only replacement for the FD. I have buddies with crazy collections of cars and they all go back to saying the new ACR is the ultimate sports car experience.

 

 

My AC is ICE cold so maybe your is faulty. Have you tried taking it to an AC shop?. And as far as creaking in the rear hatch, my friend's FD was doing that and after some trouble shooting it turned out that his issue was due to worn out hatch struts.
