Eventually you'd expect the fall off to even out as they found their way into the hands of people who respect them as a collector car.
How many of those 5600 are a #1 or #2?
Sad. The F&F movement, value valley, and 2007 financial crisis left them in the hands of car-rapists.
They got just cheap enough to be more attainable than the supras and NSXs that may have been spared from the shiny parts brigade...

^That's an easy one IMO....... I hear and read zero buzz about the VR4.
I feel like the FD has an uphill battle to attain the NSX/Supra valuation. Possible but it's going to take some time. No offense to Mitsu fans, but I don't see it happening for any of the 3kgts.
My impression is big, heavy, too much technology, pretty much the opposite of the FD 'bare bones pure sports car' philosophy.

One of my favorite articles about the 3000GT, and the early nineties Japanese supercars in general had this to say about the 3000GT:
The Heavyweight – Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4
If this article took place inside a Street Fighter II arcade machine, this car would play the part of E. Honda, the sumo wrestler with the highly irritating “hundred hand slap.” With a curb weight of nearly 1900 kg in the rare folding-hardtop version, the 3000GT was a twin-turbocharged smiling Buddha.
Because of all the weight, the 3000GT never had the handling prowess that would make its compatriots into legends. It did however, have an ace up its chubby sleeve – 325 hp and all-wheel-drive. While it couldn’t run door-to-door with a Supra at the dragstrip if the tarmac was dry, it would keep up if it was raining. Or snowing.

I *really* think these are poised for a pop. I mean, right now depending on the answers to the questions - $15-$20K seems to be the sweet spot. But honestly, with 40K original miles, that's a wildcard. In the coming years though, I think it'll appreciate faster then even the FD.
You got pictures?

I need to take her out for a proper photoshoot. I bought her two years ago from the original owner. Car has the rarer 5 speed trans. Also, has black interior which is complete and great condition, sans the sagging headliner. The paint is original (don't mind the mud on the hood and rear quarters). Some minor restoration needed for a little bit of tin worm on the bottom of the fenders. The windshield cowl drains into this area, which results in debris depositing and rotting the metal.

I will say liftbacks are probably more desirable right now - but with 40K original miles and 2 owners?! Keep that thing locked up and chip away on anything that needs to be restored. I would aim to push it through a higher end auction house if you thing you can get it up to snuff in 5-10 years.

Just stay positive and keep taking care of your FD and it will repay you
Take your car to a car show and look at the attention, compliments and $$$ offers you receive.
The only thing holding us back from Supra/NSX territory is the reliability- if we can cover that w/ a rebuild done right then that issue won't hold us back

Over the years I've owned an FD it seemed to fall in the sweet spot of being somewhat exclusive, but present in enough numbers to justify OEM and aftermarket parts/support. Before everyone becomes giddy over it's increasing 'rarity', seems like the darker side is that a lot of that support will go away. I know even this forum seems a lot less active than 10 years ago.
