Gauge Issues After Rebuild

Gauge Issues After Rebuild
So I just completed the rebuild on my engine and got it fired up yesterday, now my tach and odometer work intermittently, oil pressure gauge goes to 120psi and stays there, temp gauge and speedo don’t work at all. I replaced both of the main harnesses under the hood with new ones and everything worked prior to the rebuild (haven’t driven it in over a year). The PowerFC commander is showing normal readings of the coolant temp and RPM. Not sure if this may be a cluster issue or possibly a CPU2 or something that I messed up. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your instrument cluster could just be finally dying, they are all starting to do that. Michael Gagne on the RX-7 Facebook group is a wizard at repairing clusters.
There's also a ground on top of the engine block, it should go to one of the rotor housings. If that ground is loose/flaky/not attached you can have problems with the cluster.

Got it fixed. Not sure why the tach and odometer were intermittent at first, but the issue ended up being the white plug way up under the dash behind the blower wasn’t plugged in. The engine harness plug got caught up on something when I fed it through the firewall under the dash and I couldn’t see that plug Everything is working great. Thank goodness the search came up with a thread that pointed me in the right direction.

Nice, I didn't know that's the symptoms it would have. Glad you are back in business!

It was really strange, especially that the gauges were acting strange even though they weren’t plugged in. Pulled everything off the top of the engine to check those grounds you mentioned and when we started it back up the gauges were all dead. Thank you again for the advice!
