1993 rx-7 r1

Just picked this car up and am having it shipped to Chicago (it's a Denver car). Settled on $22,500, which I'm happy with given the few cars (clean or not) that I've been able to track down...I know it's a bit of a gamble with the unknowns of a single turbo swap car, but here's to chance!

Curious if anyone knows the backstory on it or if it's belonged to a previous member here? My intent is to clean it up and keep it as a fun toy to take out on the weekends and track days.

wow..... red everything. like it was dipped in a can of red paint. step 1, you NEED to put a filter on that turbo or remove the rest of the insulation off that ac line. seems like a good price though, cant really tell much from whats in the ad. take it to get compression tested before you do anything else with it

Yeah, there's quite a bit to be done cosmetically. My intent is to bring back to a factory look...ditching a lot of the interior and wheels.

However, step one is to figure out the mechanics of the car. I'm hoping the dealership can put me in touch with the previous owner so I can get a list of what was done...particularly which turbo kit this is and the installer/tuner.

yes... those things are good ideas but doing a compression test will dictate whether or not that information is relevant. if the motor has low compression then it will need to be rebuilt anyway.

RE-Amemiya tail light cover and door handles are the only things extra that I see painted red. Am I missing something or is it the lack of emblems combined with the tails and door handles that are giving you that impression?

Op,
As far as exterior mods are concerned: you can never go wrong with 100% stock plus, feed side steps, good set of wheels, and a nice drop.

yeah just goes to show how much of an impact little changes can make.

On a side note - I have never been a fan of painting the door handle area. It was black to begin with to have it blend in with the window and make the body of the car look seamless.

If you want to spruce up the interior Redline goods....https://www.redlinegoods.com/?sscid=21k5_3gwkt....makes these great looking stitched interior trim pieces, as well as steering wheel covers. I also covered all the plastic trim with 3M Carbon Fiber wrap. I did the outside door handles with the 3M Carbon wrap, and while I was at it replaced the plastic door handles with Aluminum handles. Any questions give me a shout.

Good luck with the car. I think keeping the FD RX7 close to stock will always make the car more valuable, and make it easier to work on. It's difficult to trace problems if the previous owner did a lot of mods and didn't leave any documentation. A simple mod is to replace the springs...dropping an inch gives the car a nice stance, and it's not enough to hamper street driving. Another good up-grade is to replace the radiator and separation tank with aluminum aftermarket pieces. The stock ones are plastic and will crack.

I posted the link in our local group to see if anyone recognizes it. We have a bunch of people in Denver so I'm fairly certain someone will know something.

The covers for the back of the steering wheel is missing. That's a new one lol. And what is with the hole in the passenger side of the center console?

Those headlights are horrendous, I've always hated those lol. And definitely put a filter on the turbo, even if you do remove the insulation from the AC line. But yeah, those two things combined are not good.

Congrats on the car. If you are looking to replace that broken passenger door handle I recommend the aluminum one from sakebomb garage, it's pricy but so sturdy you could probably rip the door off its hinges with it.

Thought you should know it's probably not an R1. It isn't listed that way in the ad but because you titled this thread with it I wanted to clear that up.
The R1 would have the correct strut brace, rear spoiler, and front chin spoiler. Some of these could have been replaced, but I doubt somebody would remove all 3 to disguise it as a base model. I couldn't tell the seat material in pictures, but it would be alcantera/suede instead of cloth. Also there is a dual oil cooler but can't see that in the pics.

Good luck with the car and welcome to the club.
