It will cost more than an Integra. I'd go to racingbeat.com and look at how muck pads, plugs, wires, filters ...etc. cost.
Seems like your brother could give you an idea.
We have 100,000 original miles on our 93 Touring. there are guys at 150,000...not many.
Sure it cost more. It's a high performance sports car.
The hardest thing is finding a good FD mechanic nearby. The closest to me is 3 hrs away...near Charlotte. that near you?

RotorSports Racing?
We've put some money in ours cause the dealer kept throwing parts at a problem it had not properly diagnosed. Other than that it has not really cost more than our previous cars. The parts are a little more, but not unreasonable. If you are conservative on modifications I think you can keep the cost with in or just above average.

Yeah I don't know what kind o 7 your brother has but my 3rd gen sucks up another $200 or $300 every time I turn around. I think you'll find most of the 3rd gen guys have bank. I dropped $1000 on tires! I'm glad I'm not trying to keep mine running on like a $50K or $60k income.

I am not sure I'd reccomend an FD as a car for you. It is our only car but we only drive it like 3-4 days a week. I think an old Miata with a Jackson Supercharger would be fun.

All I have to say is you won't fully realize just how much it will cost you until you actually have the car. If you start with a car in good shape in the first place it should reduce potential repairs, but always keeps some extra cash for unexpected problems. If you have doubts about being able to afford the maintenance costs of owning the car, then I probably wouldn't suggest buying it because you will most likely spend more on the car than you initially think you will spend. The car is definately not cheap to maintain, but besides just regular maintenance you will probably want to do some basic reliability mods like a bigger radiator, silicone hoses, aluminum ast, etc. which will add quite a bit to the costs of the car for the first few months of owning it.

Hey OGstreetracer,

I'm new here, but I'll give you my RX-7 experience. I bought a '89 RX-7 years ago. The car was great. I never had an issue with it. I bought it used from a good dealer. Unfortunately I totalled it after a little over a year.

A few years back, I found a '93 RX-7 Touring for sale while my 300zx was in the shop getting new brakes. Well, I ran over and put money down on it and when my 300zx was done I traded it in.

After about a month having the car, I noticed that the low coolant light keep going off so I took it back to the Mazda dealer at which it was purchased. They looked it over and said it was normal. After about 2 more months of putting up with it, I took it back to them. Same thing. A few more months, and I took it back and they gave me some bs about it being setup for cold weather.

So I took it to another Mazda dealer quite a ways from me. This place told me that the water pump was failing. So, about $700 and a week I got the car back. Now, the car couldn't even cool itself at all. I took it back and they said the O Ring was cracked and the engine was toast. So, 4 months of no RX-7 and $9000 later I got the car back with a remanufactured engine from Mazda.

After about a year and a half, there was oil running all over the ground. I was getting the HKS intake installed and had the mechanic look to see where the leak was coming from. I didn't want him to do anything with the engine but he saw that the leak was coming from what appeared to be the engine assembly. At that point it was looking like Mazda bent me over.

Took the car back in to find out that the oil hoses to the turbos were falling apart. Well, $90 for the hoses and about $1300 for labor and I hope to have the car back next week.

Basically, if you are going to get one, get it checked out BEFORE you put your money down. I love the car, and thankfully I have the money to spend on it. If you have to fix anything on it, it's not going to be cheap. Hopefully, if you get one, you won't have any problems. Good luck!
